Is one week enough for CBT? That seems pretty short. Do they do a good job of telling you what you need to focus on? Just wondering as I start class soon! Thanks for the info!

4 weeks is how long your sim footprint will be. Getting to the sim takes a few weeks.

I started indoc on March 20 and I finished my type ride (LOE) on June 4
There is time off during type training for contractual reasons and if you have offsite training in Las Vegas or somewhere else there will be days off before and after.
The time between indoc and the beginning of type training varies from about one week to four weeks... we had one guy start eight days later everyone else was 3 to 4 weeks later... and the more time you have off the better in my opinion because you can prepare for more than the electronic test -you can also look ahead to flows and callouts... because the day after your test (eSV) you start pushing buttons, starting engines and other flows and call outs... I was glad I looked ahead.
And even with what I considered good preparation (as a former military guy) and new to the company (and airline business) I still felt like I had to transport my private parts back to the hotel in a wheelbarrow...YMMV

-personally, no debt (no college loans, credit cards or boats...just a mortgage, that's well under my means)
-I don't live in any UAL/DAL/FedEx bases
Thanks!

Of that time...how much did you have hotel provided by DAL and how much did you get paid? I'm only asking because I'm looking at options and right now: all things being even in 30+ years...UAL vs DAL vs FEDEX 1St year and QOL issues are becoming the things I'm looking at.

Hotel for the entire duration (at a prime location too) at UA compared to 2 weeks by the airport where you shouldn't go out alone after dark (and sometimes during the day) at DL.
Full uniform package at UA provided, compared to buy your own at DL, which is approximately a 400-500 dollar value.
Full line pay at UA vs lower "training pay" at DL until finished with OE, which sometimes can take several months.
Guaranteed 3 days off before or after OE (your choice) at UA compared to a no mercy rapid fire pace at DL with only 24 hours off after sims and that's it.
DL does have a few advantages, some reliable and others depending on the intricacies of your class like:
Usually a bigger choice of AC and bases.
Faster (for now, and by a long shot...again, for now) upgrades and movement to wherever you may want to be.
Off probation faster at DL (400 block hours almost always comes several months prior to one year) as well as a very good probationary policy once you complete OE (can only be let go for cause, instead of the old school "for any reason whatsoever"...not 100% sure if this is the same at UA or not, but its pretty rare in the industry).
So as you can see, most first year things are probably better at UA for now. What weight would I place on that in the context of a full career? Almost none.
Long term DL, at least for someone starting now, is really hard to beat.
DYODD on FedEx, but since its significantly more different by nature, I can't imagine anything they do or don't do WRT first year pay and benefits will ever come close to being the deciding factor.
Unless you have multiple offers in hand, coincident with similar class start dates, I wouldn't even worry about it. Go to whoever hires you first and don't look back.

UAL has a far better first year package than DL does. Any UA guys can chime in for further details or if some of this is wrong, but IIRC this is current and mostly accurate:

Once you come back from CBT you'll need to get your own place until done with the type. Unless you get training somewhere other than ATL, then DAL will pay for hotel + per Diem.
I was lucky to get Mia for simulators, so I only had to pay a place for two weeks. It was just pure luck...

The first day is spent foot stomping important stuff to know and a light review. Go through the cut leasons and then study the LOD. Word of warning: you have to know the LOD content, but they can ask the question any which way, don't rely on the practice tests to prep you, study the LOD. The practice test simply lets you know if you need to study the LOD more.
