I'm not NYC based but it appears to me that the M88 flies mostly out of LGA. Trips can start out of JFK & EWR, but most start out of LGA. Basically everything but the 777/747/330 flies in and out of LGA, & everything flies out of JFK/EWR.

When NYC based on reserve you cover all three airports, but able to name one as your primary base(say LGA), so if called to another airport(JFK/EWR) you will be allowed more time to get to it. I think people based out there will pool together for transportation. I'm sure someone will chime in with more detailed info.

Congrats and Welcome Delta.

Thanks for the info. One more question, I understand that on reserve there is a mix of long and short call how does that work?

Every reserve day is long call(12 hours min notice) and you can be converted to short call 6 times a month.

My experience thus far has been Day 1 of reserve I get a trip or short call. Once I'm in base they usually find something for me to do. My experience on reserve has been a busy one, but I'm on the 320 and we are short staffed which is why it's going to newhires. We need more people on it. The opposite extreme is the ATL M88 category or MSP M88 category. Those reserve guys have been sitting on their thumbs doing squat so experiences will vary, but it is possible to sit around on long call reserve and work very little. Guys on ATL 767 were working about 6 days a month last year.

Default NYC Travel Between JFK, LGA, EWR

Here is a list of useful numbers and commuting options I've compiled over the last three years as a 7ER commuter.

LGA - JFK, also convenient for Kew Gardens Crash Pads
Q Runner $11 (718) 846-4900
Kew Gardens Taxi $18.50 (718) 846-6666

EWR to JFK (The first two are best. The train combo is a hassle with luggage)

EWR JFK bus $15 in uniform, $27 w/ID no uniform, $30 others 800-427-3207
or
Olympic Airporter $24
(609) 587-6600 or 800-822-9797 or 800-385-4000
6:00 AM to 4:00 PM 75 - 90 minutes
or
Bus to NY Penn Station
LIRR to Jamaica Station
AirTrain JFK to terminals.
or
AirTrain Newark then NJ Transit or Amtrak to 34th St/NY Penn Station.
NYC Subway A Train to Howard Beach or LIRR to Jamaica Station
AirTrain JFK to terminals.

www.nyairportservice.com
NY Airport Service Express Bus $13 (718) 875-8200
7:30 AM to 8:00 PM Every 30 minutes takes 45 minutes
LGA-JFK and Manhattan

ISP to JFK
Shuttle to LIRR $5
LIRR (Ronkonkoma to Jamaica Station) $7.25

Johnso how do you like the A320? I just got off active duty AF (C-21s then C-5s) and was looking at our choices A320, MD-88, DC-9. I have buddies that flew the Med-Evac C-9s so I know all about it. I'm inclined to put the A320 at the top.

cni,

Having flown the DC9 and A320, I would definitely put the Airbus at the top of the list. IMO, simple to fly with a very good FMS. DC9, easy to fly but labor intensive, no FMS, basic autopilot but remember, you're vector equipped. Didn't fly the Maddog but it looks pretty good when compared with the DC9 (numerous jumpseat observations).

Welcome aboard.

I enjoy the 320. I've flown the DC9 & 320 here, & I enjoyed both but the 320 is more enjoyable IMO. Much larger variety of flying, & you'll be on reserve on either fleet. The DC9 fleet is shrinking so I don't think you'll hold a line any quicker on it. If you want to hold a regular line the M88 is the quickest road.

Welcome to Delta.

I'm on the ER in NYC as well and hired about the same time as iaflyer. Like him most of my flying has been out of JFK but I've done several trips from EWR and a few from LGA.

I drive in so I don't have a crash pad. EWR is a lot closer for me and the others that live this way. The trips from there are popular with the guys living in NJ, PA and DE so when I had a line I couldn't get them. Now I'm on reserve and see a lot of Africa and Guyana I just got back from another trip to Georgetown and I'm hoping that the mosquitoes that made all these bites on me didn't have malaria.

Welcome aboard!
