Honolulu layover

Breakfast-- Hula Grill (right above Dukes, next to Chuck's steakhouse). Best ambience I've found, and never packed. Ocean-front table every time.
Lunch-- Chi-Chi's for decent Mexican food, or Cheeseburger Waikiki. Also try Moko Loco at any local restaurant. It's a tasty local dish.
Dinner-- Shorebirds if you like cooking your own steaks, Duke's for a good standby and watching the sun set, Hula Grill for great fish, steak, and ambience. Tiki's B&G is new and overlooks Waikiki beach with good food and live music every night. Also a good nightspot.
Nightlife-- Dawg House, Moose McGillycuddy's, Nashville Waikiki, Duke's, Kelley O'Neils Irish bar, The Wave, The W Hotel (on Friday's), Zanzibar. Most places are open until 4am.
Sunday must: Duke's live music in the afternoon until sunset. Earlier this summer Jimmy Buffett jumped onstage to help out the house band, Kapono. Lots of beer, a tipsy crowd, and a good Hawaiian vibe.
Running: lots of crews like to run around Diamond Head.

how can you NOT mention eggs 'n things for breakfast??? i used to only go to duke's for the buffet breakfast or eggs 'n things.
i really like the shorebird. i've been going there since about 1988. i like cooking my own steak and, when i was single, the grill was a great place to meet nice tourist ladies from all over the world. chuck's (above duke's) is nice and they give you a 20% (i think) discount with airline i.d. so does shorebird. the outdoor bar at the sheraton waikiki (with the giant banyan tree) is a nice place for a drink.
for "other" pursuits, don't forget pure platinum or rockza. i've never been myself, i just heard about them...
also, the "walking show" along kalakaua after about 10 p.m. is interesting.
oh and nashville waikiki is great. $1.50 mai tais during happy hour. you just need to be able to find it! (basement under the ohana west...)

All good calls, although Chuck's only offers 10% now. Did you know the burger joint in the International Market is owned by Chucks and that's where the over-aged steaks go? Nothing worng with them, in fact "that's one tasty Burger".
Only other place I'd mention is Tiki Tiki near the zoo on the second floor of the Aston. I think it's the best fish on the strip. Oh yeah, Cha Cha Cha's off the lobby of the Seaside.

Eggs and Things is still good, very consistent. It recently moved though, a little closer to Waikiki, off Saratoga St (it's on their website).
A NEW place that someone turned me onto is a place called the Side Street Inn (Hopaka St.). It's in an alley sort of behind the Ala Moana Center. Don't be scared when you see it from the outside, it is nothing to look at...but it is GOOD. Food is served family style, like a big pu-pu platter. Big servings, so don't let the price scare you. Fried rice, pork chops, smoked pig, spicy chicken....all very good. Good drink prices too. It's a local place and was featured on No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain, plus it's where all the big name chefs hang out after work.
