Downgrade/Displacement Q's

I have to admit RayRay is correct the LOA did expire but the previous LOAs did happen on a downturn so such negotiations could still be had if downgrades were to come. Where he brings up the whole idea is cost saving yes this is correct but cost savings is much more then an hourly rate it’s benefits (very large) and training so if they were to cut pilots there is a chance at CA pay for downgrades but it’s not a sure things.

LOA 50 (captain pay protection) was because the FO's were fleeing by the dozens a week. We couldn't staff this place and had CRJ 200's collecting dust from lack of FO's to fly them. Thanks to the bankruptcy pay rates, it was better to take a job at McDonalds as shift manager than fly a plane here at 8 year seniority. We had a mass exodus of FO's leaving for other airlines willing to hire them as either street captains or the captain qual FO deals. As fast as we downgraded a class of captains and cut their pay, they bailed. LOA 50 was a way to stop losing pilots before the 900s started getting parked (we were within about 2-3 months at the pace we were bleeding) It should have been implemented as a temporary pay at the least to all downgraded captains, if not all pilots on property but it was not, partly because it was a way to squash a lawsuit that had been filed by some that had been hosed in the seniority arbitration, and to that end, it also worked. Today there's nowhere else to go so no bleeding of bodies off the bottom, thus no repeat of LOA 50.
Speaking strictly for myself, the day my Captain pay is reduced will likely be my last day here...

The whole point is to save money? Wow. I thought it was to balance the offset of misaligned workforce following the furlough of FOs. Perhaps I am wrong.

What did you guys think of the downgraded CAs that would come to work still wearing 4 stripes? I thought it was weird. Yes, they had earned it and yes they were downgraded through no fault of their own, but I thought it was weird seeing two captains frequently.

It confused the gate agents, FA's and everybody else. It looked stupid and made zero sense since they had no PIC authority.

Id ensure the individual understands the uniform requirements described in the FOM. If the individual wasn’t willing to comply I would have them promptly removed from my flight deck. I don’t need anymore right seat captains.
