What's with all the cloak and dagger in this industry?
we live in 2022.... and I notice certain things in aviation that just doesn't make sense
#1 reluctance to discuss pay openly
#2 reluctance to discuss where pilots are going "hey I got an offer! I won't disclose where i am going..." why?
#3 whatever is being discussed - it's going to be public anyway? what good comes from closed room discussions? why can't it be transparent?

I agree with everything except the closed room negotiations. Think of it like sports would you tell a batter you’re going to throw an off speed pitch or a Quarterback that a blitz is coming that’s how home runs and touchdowns happen..

Yea negotiations 101 is that it's privileged until it's done. For many many reasons. Good reasons

This. I know it's frustrating being in the dark, but our negotiating committee does a great job. Trust them and the fact that current market conditions have given us a position of strength at the table.

To the management types we know monitor this forum: if you don't at least beat the AA package, whatever you are offering is worthless. Don't waste our time or yours.

40k is very low and insulting. First time ever hearing that number. We all know what we really want as retention but seems like that's out of the question. They can throw all the money they want too at is and it's still not going to prevent people leaving. I have faith in the union and they will get something done that most of us like.

Unless you give me 500k then I'd wait..and make the rsv grid always green.

1) We do discus pay openly, the rates are published.

2) Most are happy to share where they are going and why.

3) ALPA does not negotiate in public, it’s for the benefit of membership. Negotiations in public means giving up information which generally hurts the negotiating capital.

In all fairness to this poster in reference to number 3, it takes about 10 years in the industry to realize this, so he's just inexperienced on such matters.

Considering how junior this airline is going to get, awareness had better start coming sooner than that - and quickly.

Our most junior captain as of the last vacancy was hired, *i think*, 2 years and 2 months ago. We might actually run out of upgradeable FOs in the next vacancy in March. A lot of FOs that are junior to our soon-to-be most junior captain haven't been able to fly much due to being hired during covid.

Going to be real interesting, real quick.

Only one thing can stop retention, Delta seniority number. That’s it
