Given the recent news that Delta is metering OTS applicants from Endeavor, that seems like it might be a legitimate shortcut!
Wat career advice would you give to this guy I recently flew with? Put yourself in his shoes, and tell me what you would do.
- You an Endeavor FO with 1100 hours SIC time.
- You live in NYC, and want to work at any major airline (Delta, American, or United). You don’t care which one - just want to get to one ASAP (earliest possible start date).
- the flow calculator shows you will flow to Delta in March 2024.
- You get a CJO from JetBlue to start in May.
- In the current vacancy, Endeavor awards you a captain upgrade class date… also in May.
Do you…
(a) stay, upgrade to Captain, collect $100,000, and sit back to wait two years for flow in March 2024 (hoping you’ll get an OTS invite to AA, DL, or UA before then)?
or
(b) take the JetBlue FO job and get a 320 type rating… in the hopes you’ll get a call from one of the big three before March 2024. (And if you don't, you could just stay at JB)

Not too mention, you can still have a really decent career at JB. Couple that they’re also loosing pilots to the Big 3 and you could upgrade rather quickly.

Leave immediately and don't look back. Don't overthink it. All these little things like flows and bonus's, it's all temporary in nature. It's here now and it sounds/feels good. Can all vanish overnight no matter what LOA/agreement you have or whatever appears to be in writing. Then when you leave and are on someone else's list (even if it's a place you might not have seen yourself at), you'll look back and realize how dangerous it was to just hang out at your regional hoping things would have panned out in your favor. But maybe it will pan out though right? Maybe. Not worth the risk. Even if you have to go through new hire Indoc twice in 12 months at different carriers, it's still worth getting out. I suppose if your in your 20's, then you can still take a few haymakers from this industry and have it not ruin your prospects long term. But if your in your mid/late 30's and on up, i'd be attempting to evacuate immediately. I was fortunate to get out and onto what I hope is my final seniority list, but looking back on it from my new vantage point, I should have tried more aggressively to get out sooner. Ill know in about 23 years if it worked out. Good luck!
