Default Training Schedule

Been looking all around for a reasonable timeline for training from indoc through before sims as it seems like sims time may vary. How long can one expect to be away from home at the beginning?

This is pretty misleading. You will do a couple weeks of ground school (I believe part of it is done via webex and iPad lessons frombome) and then you’ll have 8 days of systems training in MSP. After that, you’ll move on to procedure trainers for a week or so, then the sims. Some of this will be set, and other parts will be dynamic scheduling, which means you’re basically on call for 6 days straight, but you may not be in a lesson everyday. I’m fact your might not get a lesson any of those days. But after the 6 days, you’ll get at least 1 (pretty sure 2) days off that you can go home.

All of that said, with no delays, expect 2 months. But you will have time at home during that 2 months.

No CJO but applied in mid October, screened in late October and told at the time that classes were out until May, assigned interview in early January. So expecting around 7 months

do you currently have minimum flight time required for 121? I find it hard to believe that a qualified candidate waits longer for EDV than Delta for CJO to class date.

this is insane if it is the case. We are bleeding pilots and current classes have around 8 people. Something is fishy if 7 months for class date. Hmmmm….

I can tell you what the current situation is, but it is obviously a fluid and constantly changing situation. The first 2 weeks of Indoc/Gen Subs is completed remotely using webex and a company provided EFB (iPad). Following the completion of your remote learning it’s off to Minneapolis to finish up Gen Subs and Systems. Plan on 3 weeks for that. After Systems you’re off to CAE in Eagan for procedure/sim training. EDV is currently finishing up the process of moving all of their procedure/sim training exclusively to CAE, so plan on switching hotels for that part. I’ve been here a few weeks now, and the director of training told us to plan on a 79 day training footprint from the start of indoc to being released to the line…assuming no retraining is needed in any areas. Also, we are allowed (and even encouraged) to travel home on weekends/holidays if we’re comfortable doing so. I’ve gone home every weekend so far and have still managed to do well on the first 2 exams. All travel to/from training events is positive space, so that’s a really great thing they offer. Classroom training is Mon-Fri from 8-5, but we have been told that we will have a long weekend for thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Training pay is your full monthly guarantee (75 hrs), and we are anticipating the TA being signed by the end of the month according to the presentation by the ALPA reps a couple weeks ago. Everyone in the training dept has been great in my opinion, and the instructors really do a great job of making themselves available by phone/email to help you with anything you need. I’m very happy so far with my decision to come here. It’s a lot of work outside of classroom hours, but it is definitely possible to go home on the weekends and still do well if you put the work in. Hope that helps.

Company has told us multiple times that the new hire classes will be tailored to meet the amount of captains we have. Sure, they could have 20 in a class but if there’s no captains to fly with. Why train a million FO’s.
Nothing fishy. The company has been very transparent about the new hire classes.

Yes I have unrestricted ATP mins - they said everyone is asking for earlier (as did I), if slots open up.
