I understand the guys leaving for a mainline or LCC job. I don't understand the lateral moves by guys around here though. Yeah, 9E isn't the best right now, but imagine if those FO's that just got hired by Delta had chosen to go to another regional. They would not have multimillion dollar jobs right now. One thing you have to understand is that the majority of the guys Delta will be hiring are the ones who haven't had the chance in the past. Most of our very senior guys were already passed over for one reason or another.

A lot of the guys are going to compass. They are hoping that the flow over there clears out half the list in 2 years which means they should be able to upgrade in about 2 years. Versus here we are shrinking so upgrade who knows when that will/if happen. They can hire 4 pilots out of seniority for the SSP so that is a max of 48 Fo's a year out of the 1100 or so Fo's. Plus the fear of us being the next comair. So I understand why they are all bailing. If they are close to the upgrade line even though it is moving the wrong direction that is a little more difficult to understand.

This entire career is a gamble. Many guys came to Pinnacle (pre 2008ish) under the notion they would get a quick upgrade. And many guys did get 2 year upgrades at Pinnacle and Colgan. The timing was right then. The timing might be right now for someone going to Compass.
Luck and timing, the 2 caveats of the wonderful industry we work in. Everyone has to roll the dice at some point in this career. That being said, these senior Endeavor FOs leaving for Compass now (in light of the recent hiring news at Endeavor), may turn out to not be the greatest move. Any junior FO making the lateral move seems legit to me

Endeavor downgraded out of necessity, but will upgrade right behind it. Why? Mgmt made a mistake not hiring sooner...we need about 100 FOs to balance everything out. My bold prediction is 14-01 will come out with 15-20 upgrade slots in it...it will move fast in 2014... Should resemble 07

If upgrades were going to the 200, you would be correct.
But as XJ flows and SSP happens (a majority at first will be XJ 900 guys) this will create open quota spots for XJ pilots to upgrade in the 900, where most of the new captain positions will be anyway.
That's the best part, right?

Delta is going to be interviewing as many 9E as possible and putting us into a pool to keep us here. It looks like everyone who wants to go to Delta, and makes it through the interview will be hired by the end of next year. When you go to class, I'm not sure, but you will be in the pool. I think the guys that left blew a huge opportunity.
