Alaska, you're preaching to the choir. I think you'd have to be nuts to come here right now. I was just under the wrong assumption that the downgrades were to even out misinterpreted Bloch quota upgrades.

There definitely are dozens and dozens of downgrades without upgrades to replace the downgrades. Bottom line is that it's a dead-end job for a new hire. There are better positioned airlines out there to work for. SkyWest has been a well run profitable company preparing for future business with the majors. Compass is hiring with guaranteed movement with the flow (as of today) with a product Delta likes, e.g.. no 50-seaters.
All we can go off of is what has been made public by the airline leaders. RA says they will reduce 50 seat airplanes to roughly 150 airframes. RA has said that Endeavor will be an 80 airframe company with all CRJ900s. Everything else is all speculation. A new hire can't look at that situation and say it's a great career move when as of today the airline is poised to shrink. Endeavor needs FOs now to cover the amount of FOs leaving for greener pastures. They're downgrading captains to cover the FO positions now! How can someone look at that and say "I don't care about the concessionary contract in place and that I am capped at 4 year pay as FO and I don't care that I'll be an FO 7 years from now capped at 4 year pay. I like being a junior FO in JFK sitting ready reserve and commuting. Life will be great"? Until Delta says Endeavor will keep the majority of their 200s for several years and keep getting 900s as scheduled then it's a no brainer to stay away. I was a 6 year FO there with NO chance of upgrading and losing seniority in MSP with each realignment that came out. Things are moving backwards there for the junior guys. When Delta comes out and says they will be growing the airline and keeping the 200s then I will eat my words. Til then, it's all speculation. Get a fork. It happened yesterday. |

Don't take this as me defending Endeavor but history has proven many times that no matter how diligent you are when you decide to work for a regional, you never know what's going to happen. There are many pilots that chose to go to a sub par regional (even though they all are sub par regardless of the small difference in pay). Many pilots went to Great Lakes and Colgan for a quick upgrade and moved on to the Majors. Bottom line is that poorer paying regional have a much higher attrition rate than others. Endeavor has been loosing 30-40 pilots per month since their concessionary contract began. Now, with the SSP and remaining flows they could see that number double. This in turn makes the seniority list fairly junior and reduces cost allowing them to undercut other regionals. It sucks if you are planning to stay at a regional for a long time but if you want to get your time and get out it probably isn't a bad bet. I think that it is safe to say that SkyWest is the better regional (paywise) to go to. But in talking with friends that fly for them, there doesn't seem to be as much movement because the "lifers" are content with their base, pay, QOL, and so on. It reminds me a lot of Mesaba under their JCBA contract. Pilots making 130,000/yr and so on. This equaled very very little movement, in fact pilots were turning down flows to the majors. Now many of those pilots who turned down the flow are interviewing under the SSP because a 25 year capatain at Endeavor can make the equivalent amount their 2nd year at Delta as an FO. With all that said, the current Fleet plan at Endeavor is 81 CRJ-900's. There will probably be at least 400 lifers left out of 2000 current pilots. Meaning no movement. If the 200's leaving is slowed or stopped then it might be a quick upgrade. Right now Compass has over half their list being flushed in the next couple years and they are having a hard time finding pilots ( other than 7 year FO's from Endeavor). I think the only way Endeavor will attract pilots is to revamp their fleet plan or have a unrestricted Flow.... just my two cents.

They have to try/say/do something. The place has become very bad over the past 6+ months due to attrition. That's why they are downgrading CA to cover FO spots. That is why they are offering 150% pick ups and reserve days every week. This is all an experiment by DAL to see just how far they could break pilots and still get the job done. The only way to attract any relevant amount of new hires would be a bonus greater than eagles or republics. And that won't get very many, IMO. And will do nothing, but for very few on property, but move them up a few seniority numbers/save them from the dreaded FO reserve at capped out pay/possible re-upgrade for some who are being currently downgraded.

No..there are actually quite a few downgrades and no upgrades...dozens is accurate. The discrepancy is over who is downgrading.
