March/ April makes sense.

The training classes in 18-01 are March - May. They'll need another vacancy to keep the school house churning after that.

Definitely beats the years of 1 or 2 vacancies a year.

Default New Non Rev Priority

I realize traveling in the CONUS we will most likely never get upgraded to first class. One of the biggest perks for our benefits is traveling overseas and having an excellent chance of being in first class. Unfortunately I believe Delta now allows FREE upgrades for certain classes (Diamond, Platinum, etc). For example I looked at the flights from ATL to AMS. There are numerous people listed for upgrades (UP2A) bumping us barely to get in the main cabin much less comfort plus or first class.

Can anyone shed light to these changes? I was under the impression if you wanted first class you had to pay for it, no complimentary upgrades. I know for sure these were not available last year. Thank you for any help.

1st class wanna be

Will this completely eliminate any qualified new hires from getting upgrades ya think?

Those changes took place about a year ago. It sucks but it's life. To get UP2A they have to be quite high up the medallion chain so they've paid their money to earn the bump in my opinion. I think it's only for million milers or diamond medillioms that have a certain number of MQMs. I usually count on one or two UP2As when I travel overseas.

No, I don't think so, indiciations are for 60 upgrades on the next vacancy. What it will do is provide enough left seat candidates to avoid forced upgrades or street captains en masse in my opinion.

And they can only get so many of them per year. I want to say 2 or 4 one way segments. Whatever the actual number, it’s not unlimited like domestic upgrades.
