If you get the morning shift, yes you'll have to come in night before. The good thing is that you're released early on your last day of reserve, so most of the time you can catch a flight home on the last day. My airport has a 6am out and a 10pm home so I'm pretty good for same day commuting. If your in a hub or smaller airport with only 1 or 2 flights then it could get rough but still doable.
Thanks so much for the response! I would be commuting out of CLT. I think DTW has the most flights to CLT between all the bases.

We do at least some of the DTW-CLT flying and of course there's jumpseating on AA... You ought to be alright.

Between Delta and American there is a lot of flying between Charlotte and New York (more LGA than JFK, but still plenty of JFK also). I recently flew with a guy who does that commute and says it's very easy.

I've heard rumors that the ballistic nylon flight kit doesn't fit in the -200 cockpit. Better off getting leather or just cutting the pockets off the nylon bag?

On the 200 looks like its 2 months of reserve, if that. On the 900 i think it's still 6 months. I commute from the west coast and was able to get home on the same day during reserve and come in on the same day if it wasn't P1, so CLT should be a piece of cake, especially with American. Just be sure to list onlinr with American or call and list.

I've seen a fair amount of guys carrying them around. I've never flown with anyone who carries one. Don't throw too much money into a flight bag only to use it for half a year.

A guy from my class got a line this month after only 2 or 3 weeks of a build up line. Looks like I'll have a month of it maybe two since I was sort of junior in my class overall. Thats 200 though.900 is longer. Maybe 6 months or so.

I had a nylon one from Office Depot or Max for a while and it fit just fine. It's usually the ones with wheels you have to worry about.
