Reserve is for jr pilots!:D:D:D

moon 12-03-2017 04:41 AM

Here's a good one. If you are sitting standby and are given a turn then come back and are given additional flying that should be coded as an R1. We had a captain win a grievance over that. The contract language says given additional flying with no reference to rap or standby or anything. Just additional flying.

However, the turnback rules seem to not matter since we lost a grievance over that.

When staffing is bad

It's worthwhile anymore since we are staffed well. They always have a standby available to throw any additional turnback on it seems. We can't get rid of that portion of the contract for local reserves it's the only way to get home sometimes.

This. Now that most, if not all statuses are actually staffed, the turnback language is actually useful.

False. Depends on seat/equipment.
Example: ORD CRJ CA = poorly staffed. Many line CA’s being sent to school house for right seat qualifications/training. Not happening for Embraer fleets.

They (Schoolhouse) are right seat qualifying all CA's on the EMB(145).

I was just looking through the contract before coming here. But I couldn’t find any info. What is the process for picking up OT when you’re on RSV? Can I put in my requests during the 24 hour ATTOT window?

48 hour window. Or anytime after the month starts.

No. During the 48 hr window.

Pedro4President 12-21-2017 07:30 PM

Picking up OT on RSV.

-48hr window.
-daily you can submit request.
-if you want to pick up OT for tomorrow then you can call before 8 am central or after 5 pm.
- you can also pick up OT via "reserve appropriation" at the last minute as long as you can get the flight out on time. If a reserve pilot has already been assigned a trip you can take that trip/part of the trip from him for premium pay. There are some restrictions. Look it up in the LOA.

EnyFlyr 12-24-2017 08:11 AM

On your last day of reserve, can they give you an overnight?

That would be known as a Junior Man. There can’t be any other pilot legal for trip and they can only do it to you twice a month and 12 times a calendar year.

Yes like the guy said above there are restrictions. They have to use reserve pilots airport standby even pilots at other airports have to assigned before they can give you a JM.

If it's a last minute event then they usually can't bring in an FO from a different airport or from home. Also they have to get you back as soon as possible. They can't put you in the hotel all day and work the late flight out when a legal earlier flight is available.

Or they can send you on a turn with a deadhead return that is oversold without any later flights. All those other requirements won't matter then.

Bigpimppilot 12-24-2017 01:48 PM

You must tell them when your being junior manned for the second time in a month so they can put you on a special list. If you don’t then you can get a third

Do you have to do it the second time in the month or just the 12th time for the year?

Anyways after four year I have only had two junior mans.

Both.

As an FO I was jr manned maybe twice (other than due to wx). Since I upgraded early this year, I've been jr manner five times. YMMV.

Is this even likely?? There are on average 19-25 guys available each day in ord and lga sitting reserve.. tomorrow about 39

Yes. Next year CAs are going to get slammed again! The company cant qualify enough CAs fast enough for the hiring they are doing.

It isn't likely for FOs right now but it is for CAs.

EnyFlyr 12-25-2017 03:51 AM

As far as RAP1 and RAP2. When 10am comes around, do they start calling RAP2 before calling any RAP1's? Or do they still call most jr regardless?

I believe they still call the most junior.

babs 12-25-2017 07:46 AM

They will call the most junior that can legally do the trip.

Provided the captain isn’t junior as well. I’ve been called a few times with 10+ below me who didn’t have 75 hrs in type because the CA was fresh off ioe.

stbloc 12-30-2017 05:40 PM

Do you have a long call reserve? Could one sit in IAH and commute up or drive to DFW on reserve?

No long call reserve at Envoy. I think Mesa has an IAH domicile though

How easy is it to commute from IAH to DFW? Would it require coming in the night before and can I get home the same day my trip ends? How many night will I be away from home with DFW base? Thanks.

It looks like a really easy commute on paper 17 flights a day. First flight gets to dfw @ 0615 last flight Home leaves at 2235. I’m not sure how full they usually get or how many commuters there are but you should be able to make it work

And keep in mind that DFW is very senior and will take awhile to hold as an FO. And depending on how much of the required 1,000 hrs of 121 time to upgrade that you have, you may get displaced to a CA slot in LGA or elsewhere before you even have a chance to hold DFW as an FO. Lots of guys waiting to get back to DFW.

How long is the wait, are we talking a year or months?

Months....

bourbon scamp 01-01-2018 09:07 AM

What’s the best way to move around a couple days during the month? Say I have a RSV block 12th - 15th and I want to take off the 14th and 15th. Is emailing swaps and drops the best way? If so, when do I email them? Do I provide them some alternatives during the month that I can work instead? I know I can trade days with other pilots too but how do I find those guys?

RF100 SWAP. Good luck. They’re not so generous on the swaps these days.

There are also a couple of facebook groups you can join to help you find guys. American Eagle Pilots Reserve Line Holders Trade Group- not very active and I haven't seen much success. If you are ORD based, EnvoyORDPilots is a lot more active. They probably have them for other bases.

Email swaps and drops and request those days to be traded with different days. Say I want the 14 and 15 off. I am willing to trade these days. Specify if you want all or nothing or if you are willing to just get one. Then repeat EVERY day.

If you proffer stand by 1 or 2 for the next day but you dont confirm after 5pm, will they always call at midnight to confirm ? If so would this retart your 10 hour rest period putting you automatically on rap 2?

No, I've had them change my reserve to RAP 1 because I didn't confirm.

DilsonWic 01-01-2018 05:32 PM

If you’re pre assigned RAP1 you’ll default back to RAP1. If not you’ll be put into 10 hours and get RAP2
