Learn a skill you can leverage on your laptop so you can be productive at the hotel and at home. Stock trading or a highly marketable tech skill like Salesforce.com. The latter is easily learned on their Trailhead site.

Standby Life
In ORD there used to be a pilot that would play the Piano for tip money in the airport.

dera is on all the other boards cheerleading Envoy and how great life is there. Probably why you guys are still filling classes. He/she/they/it could be the singular reason why you guys can't get a new pay agreement ratified.
He will be quick to say how delusional one must be to think that anything he writes will help sway potential applicants to Envoy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Of course this is all behind the scenes, so unverifiable. |

I peg Derp as a late summer/early fall 2018 hire. There was a trickle of DFW 175 assignments ahead of him, and then he/she got hired into the upswing as more planes starting hitting the line at DFW. He got a line quickly while his 145 classmates are still on reserve.
Basically, he is the guy who walked up to the slot machine and won on the first pull, and now is telling everybody how great slot machines are. |
Wow you guys never would've survived a decade ago. $1200/month after tax!
A buddy used to do home appraisals on the side. He would sit hot reserve at the airport and do it while there. And make his drive bys after he got off. At the current pay rates it's probably much more productive to pick up trips. I remember picking up a three day on first year pay back then and netting something like $180. Lol. What a joke. That was the last time I picked up anything as an FO. |

Yeah I never picked up ANYTHING back then.
If only I could find a gig that I can do exclusively on my laptop while on layovers or sitting RSV. Essentially adding to my hourly rate without taking away days off. |

BS, as expected from you.
My first paycheck is $1150, so min guarantee is $2300 after taxes, insurance etc. I took home $4300 last month. If you don't believe me, how about a bet? I will bet you $1000 that I took home that. No retention bonuses or anything. My next month is better than that. Wanna bet? "wanna bet???" "I make 4k a month wanna bet????" "Bet!" As you said, min garuntee is about $2300 a month after taxes, not 401k, and not if you have a family and choose more expensive medical plans. Trying to tout or imply taking home 4k a month for an FO is the norm is just not comprehensible. Yeah I guess if you're in one of the few FO positions that is critical OT all the time and drop yourself to 8 days a month, and are one of the few in this situation that live in base without a family and can do that, then sure you can probably take home 4k. But trying to imply that's normal and that anyone can do it is just plain wrong. And no, per diem is not income. It is federally regulated and is to cover travel expenses while on the job, and is not taxed. IT IS NOT CONSIDERED INCOME. In short, true FO current take home pay is about $2200/mo. Absolute best case scenario working every possible day and OT trip living in base that's also under critical coverage for a company that under pays you is about $4300/mo, if you include per diem. Thanks for the insight Dera. From the IRS website: What is per diem? Per diem is an allowance paid to your employees for lodging, meals, and incidental expenses incurred when travelling. This allowance is in lieu of paying their actual travel expenses. Per diem payments are not part of the employee’s wages if the payment is equal to or less than the federal per diem rate. |
