Sarcasm aside...

A million years ago, when they started moving towards the parallel runway scheme, there was an informational pamphlet they put out.

They said they’d looked at historical data and found an average of some low number of days (10-15 I think) that had sustained Xwinds that exceeded most A/C limitations. It sounded suspicious, but they claimed to have numbers.

It’s jet flying in general.

Right but a T-tail with aft mounted engines tends to exacerbate the problem more as a rudder blanking issue. The Delta MD-88 at LGA 4 years ago comes to mind. The AA MD-80 way back at LIT was another. I wondered what the 145 manual says about it and if there were additional limitations directed for such conditions.

And yet they collapsed their RIGHT gear in the dirt, but not the LEFT? When they departed the runway to the left?
An attempt to turn left with the undesirable [yet expected] skid to the right.

Bodies in motion and all that.

I seriously doubt they tried to make that exit.

Probably true. But it doesn’t take much to exceed cross wind limitations when the runway condition is less than ideal. And Chicago does get a lot more of those days.

It is addressed. Been brushing up on my cold weather stuff lately and I do remember reading about it.
