They have the same 1000 hours as the person who has been there the whole time, they just think they are better because they can’t hold down a job elsewhere.
Or a lot of DECs are just looking for better situation or a opportunity to advance their careers ie junior ExpressJet FOs who didn’t have have a opportunity to upgrade. Not all DECs are terrible either....

I ran into a Trans States captain a few fears back who mentioned he was just hired as a DEC at Envoy. Your “failed upgrade” theory is probably completely false. Most likely they were pilots who could feel the ship sinking at their carrier.

I am guessing a lot of you know this (I did not, and just learned it recently during my winter ops LOFT), but the breaking action on the ATIS is often not the most recent FICON report. Dispatch (often) has the ability to get even more recent breaking action reports.

It was not known why the ATIS publishes (often) old FICON reports, but that was news to me.

BS. We had a streak at 9E where 20% of our new hires were many-year FOs bailing from XJT. They went straight from initial to upgrade here.

The RCAM is sometimes over 12 hours old. When asking dispatch about an update, make sure it is time stamped. ATC can say "latest RCAM is 5/5/5", but it can be 12 hours old even if it has been snowing all day.

I understand there are tons of great DECs bouncing around, my point wasn’t they are all bad, but rather they are no worse in terms of experience than a person who has 1000 hours at the same airline they are upgrading at. It was directed towards the guys who think they are better than the person upgrading and staying at one airline

So again, do I have to request and wait a 32 day average period for the report, or is it in the FAA’s published FOIA library? I didn’t see it so I’m assuming it’s hidden under a sub category.

All very true and totally agree with you. The only caveat I would say is that someone that flies 1000 hours at envoys and then upgrades obviously knows the operation better, doesn’t make them a better pilot though.

There’s also plenty of dunces that flew 1000 hours at envoy and the upgraded.
