I agree. Not everyone (particularly captains) want to make a lateral move. It's not as easy getting a job at the next level as some in the echo chamber believe.

I wonder what the true attrition numbers have been over the past month or so.

Slower than the previous quarter. There’s been a real lag in what expected movement at the legacies was supposed to be. This is something that cannot be unanswered without route shrinkage. Thus, the tendency will be for more movement this year or next (especially at UA). I expect a battle to start this year between UA, Delta, and Southwest for hiring on the numbers they have forecast. Spirit, Alligiant, Jet Blue to suffer. Regionals will be in chaos. Even the mighty Skywest may start t have difficulty covering contract performance objectives.

How about "upchuck" for the callsign instead. When did TSA join this rumor?

AA plan for 2018 is a total of 920. Plan is 40 every 2 weeks. After the summer this will slow to 30 every 2 weeks.

In a few years, this annual hiring number will not even quite cover their mandatory retirements.

For reference, 2017 actual hires were 645.

A majority of AA hires will come from the 3 AA W.O. and military, but they too will increase the sucking sound on the regionals.

I agree, by 2020, regionals will be in chaos.

They are already in chaos and costing the legacies money because of it. Heads are in the sand hoping for reprieve from 117 as a cure all. They will continue till they create the next financial disaster to push for the changes they want.
