As long as the pilots leaving are causing captain openings, it doesn’t matter in the scheme of recruiting new hires. Once upgrade times drop (upgrades are street captains at Envoy), then new hires will come. ExpressJet could do what some other regionals are doing by making an upgrade available to anyone once 1,000 hours 121 time is reached. Then, upgrade times will match the lowest in the industry.

I would go to expressjet no question if they had a 1000 hour upgrade.

Until they run out of qualified FO’s currently on the seniority list that will never happen.

XJT is a unique regional. Very small and a lot of VERY senior people that still have 6-8 years left. They will undoubtedly stick it out to 65. At least the legacy ASA guys. They’re going no where.

Can’t have growth without FOs. Attracting FOs requires growth or real upgrades. I feel like XJT is toast sometimes.

I think the upgrade time will drop dramatically at XJT, just like it did at ZW. We had a very similar situation in terms of an entrenched, very senior group of captains and a bunch of FO’s that had been waiting a long time to upgrade.

Within 24 months of announcing the United flying, upgrade dropped to around 12-14 months. A big part of that was the mass exodus of pilots in the middle of our seniority list. We still have a bunch of guys bypassing, and we have a fair amount of FO’s that would take the upgrade today if they had 1000 part 121. I think the guys and gals that head to XJT now are going to be in a pretty good spot in 18 months.

XJT’s current situation is a very good example of how dynamic the regional industry has become, and why I tell people that ask me which regional they should apply to 6 months from now I tell them “you need to wait and ask me again in 5 months.”

On a completely separate note, it’s good to see XJT get good news and actually have something positive on the horizon.

Most junior IAH FO hired 04/2018. That individual was flying the line in 07/2018...so to answer your question... approximately 6 months to hold IAH out of training...and dropping.

But almost 12 years to hold CA. There are a very few under that but I think most/all are training center.

Huh? Now you are just being ignorant. Junior capt is 7.5 years and will drop significantly in the future.
