It seems pretty straightforward to me. UA says to Expressjet management: C5 can do for $5 what you do for $7. Do it for $5 or we will cut your contract.

I'm sure that the size of the network EV has is appealing but there's no reason a mixture of OO/C5/ZW couldn't cover it. The same could be said of any of us really...

but the name of the game now is supposedly cost cutting, correct? Why not try to get c5 down to $4 or $3. United is bleeding cash, there is no way Kirby would pass over an opportunity to bend over a pilot group.

Because the Port Authority of NJ and NY has to do what the governors of NY and NJ tell them to do.
If they say let United increase EWR flying they will. If they then say no we are worried about people bringing CoVID to EWR they will go back on what they say.

absolutely ZERO, some C5 guy is over on their forum peddling conspiracy theories and pretending he is a “somebody” who knew “someone” who was “important”- lol it’s a joke.

No one on here knows what will happen in the end, and the only thing that is factual at this point is C5 is the only carrier that has lost flying in their only base of operation going into August. Who knows what that means, but no doubt we will find out eventually, at first glance I wouldn’t say it’s good for C5 though.

And why is there any reason to think the Port Authority did anything to C5?

Good point, good point. They may, on the other hand is C5 knows they have the cheaper product, it might be easier for them to hold the line on their current cost. If C5 knows EV can't come down to $5, why budge.

Even now the August schedule is increasing for XJT and C5 flying has now been reduced by 10 daily departures as ZW moves back into IAD which is the ONLY base C5 operates out of. There has been an addition to XJT flying, not a reduction. Lol you are dumber than sh**... anything can happen but you don’t know anything about this business.
C5 lost flying in IAD due to the fact they were supposed to pick up 3,000 block hours in EWR before the NY/NJ goverment created mass travel bans. Which would of been enough to keep everyone in jobs come October 1st. When the EWR flying went away we didn't get our 500ish hours back from ZW. I wouldn't be so quick to speak of what you don't know.

I have zero skin in the game, don’t work for either. Just trying to point out an alternative to your narrative.
