Has the union or management said that? Because that sounds way out of proportion to United's current strategy to me. Not to mention, C5 has plenty of capacity, there isn't necessarily a reason to reduce the flying in IAD because of an increase in EWR. Not while flying is this low anyway.

I'm the guy who said that and that statement came directly from a union official (though I won't say who since I don't want to get him in any trouble). It is no conspiracy theory. This guy sees the data file UAL gives our company and works with other union members to build our schedules every month so he would know the truth. I've also flown with the guy and, like me, he is not someone who gets his jollies running around telling lies.

They originally gave C5 8000 block in EWR for August and gave a couple hundred hours of our flying in IAD to AW that made sense given their typical route structure. Then at the last minute Cuomo and Murphy got together and over-reacted to the recent spike in cases in the south and declared "no turn up in EWR". The port authority of NY and NJ (note those states are in the name of the organization) pulled the plug and UAL was forced to delay reopening of EWR. At this point it was too late to change what they gave AW so C5 got what it had in July minus about 200 hours, so we now sit at 2500 hrs for August. This is consistent with a couple captains I know who barely had a line in July losing their lines for August.

Care to make any more uninformed statements?

They originally gave C5 8000 block in EWR for August, gave AW some additional flying in IAD to pick up what made sense given their typical route structure. Then at the last minute Cuomo and Murphy got together and over-reacted to the recent spike in cases in the south and said "no turn up in EWR". Doesn’t get more uninformed than a secondhand rumor being paraded around as fact. Even from a union rep; I’ve personally seen many of those never come to pass. I’ll believe it when it’s in a union email, press release, or a company announcement.

I get it. Everyone is hurting and it’s a lot more palatable to blame Cuomo than a force of nature or big picture economics.

I just really want an answer to the question, how do you know you had 8000 hours? That's a huge increase and it's odd that it's not been brought up til yesterday.

I know because a guy I trust said he saw that in the original (now pulled) data file straight from UAL. Is it really that hard to believe?

Why do you guys care anyway? It's not exactly news that pre-covid C5 was taking over flying in EWR from you guys while you were moving out to ORD. It makes perfect sense to me that UAL was expecting C5 to do a bulk of the E145 lift out of EWR during the recovery. And for the record, 8000 block is less than 70% of the flying we were doing this time last year so it's not exactly a gift. Even with that many hours we'd have to furlough some people come October 1.

Everything you say is a absurd, not to mention you didn't get the Fake block hours you're talking about in the end so it's irrelevant. Secondly, the "travel ban" /quarantine requirement was implemented on June 24th for EWR. We have been given block hours far exceeding the IAD block hours in question only days in advance and you want to believe a fairytale that United couldn't give you the flying back in IAD with almost 5 weeks of lead time? haha this is getting more ridiculous by the minute.

It is a little hard to believe honestly yes. Also, 70% is a big gift when most of us, even OO, are doing well below 50% of the 50 seat flying we did last year. Like, even if you do have a friend who did that, they pulled the wrong file for you bc that makes no sense at all.

It's official. ExpressJet is done

"ExpressJetters,

As you may be aware, United made a strategic decision to retain only one ERJ145 United Express operator for 2021 and beyond. Unfortunately, we have just been told that United intends to go forward with CommutAir as its sole operator of the ERJ145 in 2021.
