My money's on the latter: I think they're going to invite folks they're legitimately interested in seeing. Otherwise why else would they have assigned you that number?

In addition to the site saying "first come, first served", it also said the event is purely informational in nature and no interviews will be conducted. They could certainly weed people out if they wanted, but they'd just be inviting the most qualified people to, what, see if they care enough to show up for a tour?

Sounds like they're going to go one by one in order of who signed up looking to weed out things like double entries, inaccurate profile ID #s that don't match anything in the database, etc, until the event is full. They also have to go through and provide the additional invites to the limited-space-tours on 2 May and 3 May that the registration asked about.

Hopefully that won't take all the way until April 10th, though.

April 10th. Lol.
So everyone has to bid for Wed the 3rd off before they know if they made the cut.

I'll do my best, but it sure would be nice to know earlier than that.

Totally disagree. I do think they will look at who submitted and that could be a benny showing motivation but I don't think the company will vet anything to bring in ones they wanna take a special look at or not look at. But as far as who the slots go to, very simple, app on file, register, first come, first serve.

I get that April 10th seems really far away but realize that for the people that are setting this expo up, this isn't the 1st priority in their job description and the company didn't hire anyone who's sole job is to do this. This is an additional duty for a great number of people and since its the first of it's kind, there will be bumps in the road. The company has also asked for volunteers from the crew force to help out. So the volunteers who will be assisting with this program don't even know yet if they are helping.

So my friendly recommendation is, bid for the 3rd off. Then if by some unfortunate event, yours wasn't in fast enough and the time off doesn't work for you, hopefully you could manipulate your schedule. thats much better than NOT getting the dates off and then getting an invite. It does say on or before April 10th so hopefully it will be
before for you all.

Thanks. I appreciate the advice. (Sincerely).

They could have made it either immediate like DL and SW did, or they could have made it before most bids close. That said, you're right, it likely wasn't their first priority, and I appreciate they are doing this.
That said, a lot of pilots are either going to have to call out sick for this, bid off in the hopes it works out, or just no show and waste a slot.

Still hoping I get a ticket, and hopeful I get the days off.

So they should see when other airlines bids close? For the record, it's before FedEx's bid closes for May. Corporate guys that I know don't bid but just ask for days off. Military guys don't bid, so they should take every airline- major, national, ACMI,etc and see when their bid closes. This would be for about a third of the applicants(at best)..... and honestly if one wants to be there, one will.

I CAN tell you, it isn't their first priority. And again, its their first shot at it.

As to your comment about pilots having to call in sick because of this, I guess I don't understand how that would be any different than if they told someone immediately, unless one isn't willing to bid the time off without a golden ticket in one's hand.

Sorry the notification for you is a limfac, but I guess I don't see this being an issue for most because they are willing to bid the time off, take vacation, move their schedule, etc at the chance that they were part of the first (however many) to get selected.

PC, not dissing on you but my take on this is kinda like "Hey, thank you for the free cup of coffee but maybe you should provide soy because some of us are lactose intolerant."

Just my two cents

Hey...no making fun of those who need have to sip almond milk as they are lactose intolerant. You Dairy-ists are completely insensitive and are jamming into my safe space. I am going to consider cutting and pasting this hurtful post and reporting it to the moderators.
