Ummm, yes it matters! I would much rather be at a city's sporting event, touring the local sights or visiting a local pub, instead of sitting number 40 for T/O, delayed, extended duty day with min layover time. I might agree with you if I were a slam clicker. Working 4-5 legs a day with min layover time isn't my idea of the job I want. I'm not gone from home any more but I'm just "workin" less.

If you have a long enough layover and it's convenient, you can even go home. People have long layovers in Europe and catch the train to another country to go sightseeing. You can do whatever you want.
Put it this way, if you have three days off (not at your home), that you are getting paid for, regardless, what would you choose to do? Bike across the Golden Gate Bridge to Tiburon, spend the weekend in SF? Go skiing in Switzerland? Or fly all day? Yes, it is important to enjoy your life, even if you aren't home. Life is short. Some people even fly their families to join them on a long layover.

Didn't mean to touch a nerve. I'm just saying time away from home is time away from home. Sure, I'd rather be skiing the alps or what not. But for every time you're doing that how many times are you sitting in Little Rock or Fresno?
It's cool to see the world, but I personally wouldn't choose my job because of it.

But I've never flown into Little Rock or Fresno, though if I had enough time off there, I'm sure I could find something fun to do. Even if you have a long layover at some place that many would consider boring (like Laredo, Harlingen or Des Moines), you can always rent a car and find something interesting to do. Home is great, but it's fantastic to be able to enjoy layovers when you're working.
Though I wouldn't choose a job because of layovers, I definitely would consider 300 block hours superior to 1,000. And flexibility to work the types of trips, as much or as little as you want to work, and length of layovers as a bonus. I flew for a major carrier before this, and the schedule you were awarded is what you flew. You built your life around it. At FedEx, for the most part, your life is your own.

Mover...
Judging by the number of SWA pilots who quit for jobs at FDX, UAL, and DAL...
The number of folks at FDX from DAL, SWA, and other airlines...
And the fact at ECIC I have a coach who quit Delta for AA and another who quit UAL for DAL....
I am pretty sure they don't care a single iota...
