Default Best ANR Headset for FDX use?

Researching ANR headsets to wear in FDX jets, where cross-cockpit talking is the norm and interphone is not normally used between pilots. What works, what doesn't work, and what model(s) are you happy with? Used to use a Sennheiser on the 727, with the inboard earcup parked above my ear. Appreciate all y'all.

.

You don't say what airplane you are flying? The 727 was VERY noisy (interestingly so were the early 747's).

I've been on the MD-11 for most of the past 20 years. It's pretty quiet, I'm not sure I remember ever flying with someone that brought their own headset?

Don't all the planes already have ANR headsets as ship's equipment? MD and 777 do. With the off ear technique most guys use, it doesn't seem like buying your own is going to make a big difference from what we already have, IMO.

The company ANR headsets never cut it for me. Every controller sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher. They are powered by the ships circuit instead of batteries.

I found that a good ANR headset was a requirement in Asia on the 757/767.

I wore them on the 777 to keep from losing hearing from the other guy's speaker. Who would have thought that pointing the speaker at the guy's shin wouldn't work so good. I honestly think the sound goes back, is reflected off the bulkhead, and is louder for the other guy than the one crunking it to eleven.....

Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?

..........These go to eleven.

I was starting to have problems on the radio with the company ANR's, especially with female controllers. The Bose were better but clunky and hard to hear the other guy. I finally got a custom ear mold and an old school Plantronics from Averysound. Less than $300, I can turn down the volumes on the radios and I stick a earplug in the other ear during cruise. Way better than any other ANR combination. If we had hot mike on the intercom, I might feel differently. I'm on the 75/76.

Why doesn't anyone here use the intercom? Some carryover from the 72 days?

Tap the guy on your left an ask him. You might have to yell really LOUD.

1. We're not flying RJs.
2. Keying the mic every time I want to say something would suck.
3. It's unnecessary since we can speak directly to each other just fine.
4. Unless I'm in China, speakers and hand mic at cruise is the only way to go.
