Default Type 1 Deice is an EMERGENCY?!

Time to reign in the "operational emergency" verbiage.

Type 1 deicing at a major hub is only an emergency if you're not managing your operations and/or if you're already near contractual limits because your schedule is complete fakery.

Where's the damn (new) contract and will somebody please enforce it?

Say again?

Are you being told that type 1 deice is only to be used in an operational emergency, otherwise type IV only?

Airlines (pax and cargo) sometimes like to trigger "emergency" contractual scheduling provisions in the face of entirely predictable winter weather conditions.

Especially when they are already stretching the contract to within an inch of its life on a day-to-day basis.

“Emergency” as in Memphis can’t get their stuff together ahead of time with regards to deice procedures and relies on declaring an operational emergency for every little flake of snow that falls. Glad I’m on vacation!

Wow. He is saying that de-icing in memphis creates a operational emergency. And it’s JUST type one. Not needing 4 as well. He’s not saying type one is for use in emergency. Duhhhh. He’s saying how ridiculous it is that there is not good deice program in memphis. It happens every year. Usually more than once. Good reference on the manual. You must be so smart!
