What is the typical delta international trip like?

For Europe, operate 1 leg over, overnight for 18-24ish hours. Operate return leg back. I've had Delta crews stare at me wide eyed when I tell them we have 3+ day layovers in CDG, CGN, STN, etc.

Seriously guys? You’re rationalizing why our jobs are easier than the pax haulers? Yeah, I’ve had multi-day layovers in cool places. I’ve also done an 18 hour double augmented day ANC-HKG-TPE. Quit making the company’s case for why we’re worth less than the pax haulers.

So you didn’t tell them the rest of the story?

This was going to be my point. Passenger airlines do easy trips compared to ours. They fly one leg, get about 18-36 hour layovers, and one leg back, that pays about 25-30 hours. Then they get to do it again a couple more times in the month and done.

Did I tell them I was continuing around the world from each of those places? No, but they asked about my one trip per month.

Would you rather make 4 commutes a month to work four 3 day trips or 1 commute to work a single 12 day trip? Many commuters would say the later, myself included. There is a reason Delta NYC widebody goes so Jr compared to other domiciles.

14 posts and you’re telling me to chill? Also, you really don’t want to see me in a Speedo.

You’re one 12-15 day trip?

That’s a good point. They do have many more bases better than Memphis so they don’t have as many commuters. You do know there are airlines where pilots go to specifically for their one day trips and the ability to be home every night on days they fly? Being able to commute to one huge trip is not seen as a benefit to many. On the contrary.

Correct. I bid single departure lines. It was one of the main reasons I turned down Delta, and came here. It just worked better for our family.

One leg over and one leg back that pays 25-30 hrs are almost non existent at least at DAL. Most pay high teens low 20s at best. There may be some of the ULH that come to that neighborhood, but they are few and very far between.
