Do you live in one of the legacy bases that cold called you? If so, UAL is hiring street capt, and DAL is down to 1 yr for 717, 320, and 73 Capt. Also, pretty solid reserve rules now.

 

I've been assured by those on here that we're not overmanned so that won't happen, besides, I've also been told I don't work here. Most senior captains are staying to 67 out of spite....and nothing will make them leave....

Seriously, many of the FO's I've been flying with are concerned about furlough (probably because of the evil Pat May). I am surprised that despite their concern, very few, if any have actually read Chap 23 in our CBA entitled "Furlough and Recall". It describes the provisions that allow the company to offer an early out, the use of 4A2b and 4A2C to mitigate or avoid a furlough. More importantly, there is a chart that tells you how many months you are entitled to pay and medical care after you are furloughed.

Our former R&I guy (Ken Binder who just recently passed far too young) wrote a great series of articles for ALPA National about what you can expect during a furlough. If you are concerned and "on the bubble" I encourage you to spend some time reading these.

I've been 4A2b'd (the old one) down to 55 hrs a month and then excessed a few time, though only one stuck. If you PM me, I will be happy to share a strategy that worked for some to stave off displacement until the situation improved.

There's good information out there if you are willing to glean information from those who may not see things the way you do but are willing to help.

 

If you are unhappy here.....leave.....life is too short to spend your time unhappy....seriously....if you would be happier somewhere else, the seniority meter is ticking at the other places so the sooner you leave the better otherwise you could find yourself on the wrong end of a wave again. You don't want to go out of the frying pan into the fire.

You'll never truly know if you made the right move financially until the end, but you'll know every day if you made the right or wrong move emotionally.

So all those on the cusp of bailing, I encourage you to take the first step and don't be afraid to bet on yourself, because you're the only one who will (excluding of course those who love you)

 

If they want to die in the left seat while providing ultra-discount labor to Raj and not spend their A plan monies, more power to them. Doesn't bother me one bit if someone wants to kill themselves by exercising their seniority rights just so they can feel like they beat me. I'll be sitting here on RB for 54hrs a month, playing golf all day, sleeping tight every night, not getting called, waiting for the FCIF announcing their departure.

 

US Postal Service cuts aircraft volume by more than 90% Supply Chain Dive

USPS has reduced its air freight by 90% over the last two years (dated August, 2023). NO surprise, management was aware of this starting in early 2021.


Also, unless 777s carry the postal contract(which i'm pretty sure they dont since their domestic exposure is minimal), there will be no furloughs due to loss of postal freight.

Everyone needs to read Section 4.a.2.c.ii and 4.a.2.c.iii

As long as 777 BLGs remain high, there is ZERO chance of a furlough or a reduction in min BLG. Doesn't matter what the rest of the fleets do.

SAM can drop to 55CHs, but as long as there's a 13-16CH spread between 777s and at least one other fleet, management can't do jack squat. And that fact is thoroughly upsetting them.

It's why management and PD put out the doom and gloom in an LCA meeting to try and convince the pilots it'll happen, when it wont.

PD said 4a2b was gonna happen by end of February. Well, SAM for Jan was ~69.5, and February is ~70.5 (converted 5 week CHs to 4 week).

He said 4a2c was gonna happen by May. Yet he casually forgot to reference the limitations on management under 4.a.2.c.ii & iii.

But hey, don't let the small details get in the way of a good story Pat...

 

See, and that's what you don't get....if the RB is a good deal, then they'll bid it while you get the 4 leg am turns....We may be fat, lazy, ugly, greedy, and past our prime, but we're not stupid. A lot of us try to maximize the value of our marginal hour of work, not necessarily maximize the w2.....sometimes both things happen at once, most times not

 

At best they might be able to cut BLGs by a few hours, but that will take building 777 trips very innefficiently and they don't yet have the staffing to do that on that fleet, yet.

 

Well I agree with you on this....that's why they're training I think as fast as they can

 

777 and 76 are MD11 replacements.

 

OK. what's the A300 replacement then if not the 76?
