What do they want? They want to bust the union! Plain and simple. This is a typical union busting technique designed to pit the membership against the MEC leadership.

So, what did they leave out?

How about the fact that they entered 4a2c without offering early retirement incentives or unrestricted leaves of absence.

How about their offer of well below industry standard rates of pay? Sure, they can complain that the union only reduces their ask by $1, but the company offer was more than insulting. If they truly wanted to negotiate a contract, their offer would have been closer to $440/hour, leaving room for our counter offer.

How about dragging targeted negotiations out for 20 months.

How about taking 24 months to address the concerns we have about scope?

Despite what PD says, the company is happy to continue to drag this out as long as they can.

The company has played this game before. Hopefully their direct negotiations are a sign that they are concerned that the NMB is seeing that there will not be a deal without the threat of self help.

Of course. PD’s bonus is based on how much he can save the company through a TA.

Random thought... How many block hours does PD have during the entirety of employment here? Estimation is acceptable.
Agree with your comment btw.

I was on the JS one time when he was doing his monthly ‘currency’ flight or whatever it was. The check airman in the right seat was more-or-less giving IOE.

The more I read the company update it’s becoming more clear there’s something more at work at higher levels than PD. I think the comm was desperate. Blaming alpa which is essentially the pilots for this lack of a contract and progress is pretty pathetic.

It’s only going to bolster more hate and discontent against the company. Good Will is gone. Yeah there’s guys justifying draft and blah blah but you’ll never be able to fully put the brakes on that. I just don’t know how leading into their peak season the company would choose to pour gasoline on the fire. And usually the intent is not the result. Much to what Merle is saying they want this to be a large disruption to the Union mentality but I think this is more unifying than divisive.

Blaming pilots for the pain the company is purposely inducing is absolutely the wrong message. They have failed. Let the pilots make up their own minds on a case by case basis as to how to respond. I know how my mentality is focused right now.

stalling

Appears to me they have spent a few weeks with us "discussing the possibility of direct negotiations" and will probably announce this Friday.. "nah..let's wait for a mediator, we'll continue good faith negotiations and will let investors and customers know there will be no disruptions to service.

Too big to fail.

It appears to me that the company spends most of its energy messing with its own employees and customers, manipulating earnings, milking as much as possible out of it as the ship sinks. They pay bosses, or for example the expense report department, crew planning/scheduling, to stir us up rather than do the real work of running a business.

You’re giving them way too much credit. The lower level administrative functions, and day to day ops issues, are not by design. It’s the trickle down effect of cost cutting, layoffs, and outsourcing combined with a touch of incompetence.

This. Everyone needs to make sure they’re not doing the job of a cut employee out on the line.
