Flew with a pilot that was hired last summer with no internal rec's. He did have alot of DC10 international time.

In other words, as has always been the case at FedEx, if you get the interview, the job is yours, just don't screw it up. However, I've not figured out the process currently in place, but for sure, if you're called in for an interview, the company is well past who recommended you.

So I may actually have some hope! Thanks.

Saw on the HIRING INFO page of this website where some dude says he heard internally that the PIC Turbine requirement is now, or going to be, 1,000 PIC Jet. I have not seen that anywhere. Would someone like to confirm or deny?

Thanks 'all

Probably true, since everyone knows that "advanced academic degrees are more important in determining the success of a pilot than actual aircraft experience". - Dex Tutor

It's not so much the degree itself, but it shows a willingness to complete a difficult program, ability to see beyond stick and throttle, and increases one's knowledge. Though they do not take the place of good piloting skills, these are desirable characteristics in dealing with international operations and general decision making. They also make for better conversation at 35,000 feet.

On Pilotcredentials.com, which has joined the FEDEX and SWA application process into 1 page, SWA is already doing it. Hopefully software issue or FEDEX won't follow suit.

Actually, Dexter Tutor did the hiring for about a year or so, back in the day. I believe he was fired from that job, so I believe FlyFdx was just saying that tongue-in-cheek. Dexter had this thing for advanced degrees, but thankfully he was replaced by someone who realized that flying ability and getting along with others were more important indicators of a FedEx pilots' long term success potential than having a PHD, DMD, DDS, MBA, LLD, or DMD, etc. As someone who barely made it through high school, I tend to agree.

There's really no approach that will make everyone happy. There isn't one Ivy League, ACC, Service Academy, or NESCAC school graduate that agrees there's an issue with the current hiring practices at SWA or FedEx. But there are a lot of guys that are pretty upset. It seems to me that the best way to handle hiring is require guys to have a sponsor that can vouch for someone as being socially adaptable and a good pilot. It provides another level of accountability, and it puts the responsibility for the candidate to do well as much on the sponsor as on their candidate. But, it seems like 98% of the dudes making it in the door over there are sponsored and have the competitive degrees. It makes for one tough nut to crack with all the guys trying to make it through the door at FedEx at SWA.

Am I master of the obvious? Ah, whatever. I felt the need for a post.
