FedEx Hiring
#1361
We hear these rumors all the time. However, I do think we will see a decent number retire on Dec 31. Many retirement eligible guys were waiting to see if the retirement would improve before making the jump. We just signed a contract that gives a bonus for those giving a years notice and retiring on Dec 31. I have no idea how many put in their notice, but it's a one time deal. If you change your mind, you aren't eligible for the money again. So I think most of those that put in notice will actually retire.
I have no idea what the real number is. I doubt it was 500, but I suppose it's possible. If I had to guess I'd say about 300, but it's just a guess. I will say the company is really ramping up hiring.

I also know of some (at least 3 personally) who will retire with minimum notice (1 day?). It makes no sense to me, but it sounded as if they see it as a sort of 'revenge' for our TA/CBA, at least from the couple of guys who shared their plan with me.

Probably because the 1 year notice option doesn't fit into their plans! Maybe if there would have been some financial incentive for those with less than a year planned they would have given notice.

I agree. A sliding scale for giving notice would've been nice for us, and for the company, IMO. The $40K for 12 months notice, $20K for 6 months notice, $10K for 3 months... something with more flexibility.

The exact number of mandatory retirements is 94 according to the 2016 ALPA calendar.

Could you still jumpseat home?

Not to derail the thread, but it would be nice to negotiate for our retirees to have access to the jumpseat on personal status. I know we don't have 'cabin' seats for guys not holding a current medical, but we used to carry non-pilots in all our jumpseats before. Has that ever been brought up in negotiations?
