So they hand picked guys to fly the 11. And the MOAB is coming out soon where all the other new hires can bid the 11. Hmmmm.

I disagree. At other airlines, it is a question... but it's the right question. Is this guy in "the book?" At my previous passenger airline, most captains would reference the little yellow book for any jumpseater. And I've seen guys say "never mind" and scurry out the door when the book came out. I'd say that was a good "power play."

Maybe that's the question FedEx captains should be asking before taking jumpseaters. "Did this guy actively work to diminish my profession?" Not "am I going to be uncomfortable for the next 6 hours?"

Hey, congratulations to you! I hope your interview goes well, and you get hired. Then you can come on this board and complain like the rest of us.:D

So if I were retiring from the Military in 18 months, should I put my app in now? Or is that too far out? On that note, how far out is too far...or is that not something to worry about? Is the standard advice just get your app in and let the company decide.

Put your app in now. The window closes often. If you're in, you can update even if the window is closed.

They ask for your availability date when you fill it out...so get it in now before the window closes.

I had my app in for 12 years... Just kept updating and finally got "the call" a month ago. Get it in.

12 years? You must have started applying back when FedEx charged $75 or something like that to apply (before pilotcredentials.com ???)

Most recent FDX class: 35 pilots-2 hired as pro instructors, 33 hired to the line. 70% military experience. 30%- a smattering of other types. 13 were hand picked for the MD-11 due to C-17 or any MD experience. Seniority for them was based on last four of SSN- highest number was best seniority number. Of the 20 remaining- 3-767, 4-757, 1-777, 12-Bus. Picked based on last four of SSN- highest chose first. All planes were to MEM.

One from AA, one from UAL, one from SWA- people are making the decision based on personal / family choice.

VP of Ops: 206 will retire in '16- confirmed.
7k current and qualified apps on file.
Window is open- apply and update often. Don't apply and you can't update while 'waiting in line.'
Expect 30+ per month each month for the rest of the year. (All subject to change I'm sure....)
Lots of blue suits each day in the lobby.
How people got the job? The overwhelming answer was: 'networking.'
Some waited years for the opportunity- some only a couple of months.

Best of luck!

App has been updated regularly since 2000 after a 1st attempt at a their astronaut interview. At least 8 recs and plenty of MD and B time but only silence. Almost ready to throw the towel in and move on to more lucrative options outside of flying, but happy for some of buds getting the call while slaving away at other legacies..
