It sounds like you get offered a class with boeing and airbus or you are hand picked for the mad dog. Then day one of class you bid for aircraft? Then based on aircraft award you bid base? Or is the aircraft and base bid simultaneous?
I guess I am really currious when you would know both base and aircraft.

If you are "hand picked" for a particular aircraft type they simply hire the group a day before a class starts and thus establish your employment date and seniority number. They then only offer that aircraft type to your class to "bid". The next day they start the other pilots and offer them what ever other aircraft slots they want to fill and those pilots get to bid their preference in seniority order, just like you did, except your class only had a single choice available.
Once on board, however, if they open up a new system bid you can bid whatever you want. They may not train you in the new seat for some time, but eventually you will get to go the seat you held on the new system bid.

Everyones got their favorite, but the MD11 bidpack has a lot of variety. While it is true some of the international flying has been wet leased out or migrated to the 777, I would still argue you will see a lot of good flying in a jet thst is comfortable and pleasant to fly. Generally speaking, you also do not see 2 legs outbound on the AM launch very frequently.

Sitting in the AOC break room today, doing my usual eat all the popcorn I can and drink all the ice tea possible (my way of "sticking it to the man"), I just overheard the nice lady who sets up the final flight/retirement table mention there's on today, and one tomorrow. I saw at least one last week.
Hiring's steady. Retirements are going. MOVEMENT!!!
Good times.

It's neither mil or civilian. They cannot, legally, "look for mil or civilian" and in general they don't prefer. Some classes are more mil, some more civilian, some 50/50.
You don't need an internal rec but they don't hurt.
Just keep your app current, make sure all your t's are crossed and I's dotted (to the extreme) and keep your nose clean. Hang in there. Good luck.

That's fantastic news! Just updated my app, anyone have a clue to what they're looking for as far as times? Is it mil or 121? Do you need an internal rec? I'm 43 with over 7k in 121 plus 1k pic jet. Just got back into the 121 game after a much needed hiatus. Current and qualed, just need a call. Thanks Amigos!
