I've certainly met some pretty impressive young folks. This guy was the "stereotype" modern kid, however. It was not so much generational as IMHO a mom who was very academic and a bit sheltering. He is highly intelligent, and like the guy from The Big Short will probably make himself and a of other people a lot of money someday.

Lesson I learned in life is jobs are good. Work is good. Make sure your kids have a little balance. It doesn't have to be working at 7/11 or fast food, but get them interested in doing something...

Nailed it. I recently spent a few years working at a semi-prestigious university with kids like that. It is kind of a generational thing but the generation with the problem is more often than not...ours (assuming someone born in the 60/early 70's). The best way to screw up your kid is to do everything for him or shelter him from all harm. The second best way is to push your kid to accomplish your dreams. Especially the dreams you didn't quite accomplish.
I saw those kids in college. You now see them in the interview pools. Waiting with eager anticipation to watch them perform in the work place.
And I'll caveat that by saying those kids aren't the majority. And many of the kids I worked with were eye-wateringly impressive. But the ones with over-protective, high expectation helicopter parents...weren't. Fortunately, I really don't expect to see many of them in the cockpit.

Can someone give me some info regarding the type of trips in CGN? How quickly can one expect to be based in CGN? I'm currently at a legacy based in ATL but would really like to move my family to Europe. I'd be losing about 3 years seniority and approx 2500 numbers to head to FDX. Is the grass greener? Please PM with any insight. Thanks

Last time I looked, we have 2 day-time lines BSL-CDG-BSL, and 2 TLV-CDG lines one great/one good (the best trips there, IMO). The remaining lines are night-hub turn lines, with the nice ones being BCN and AMS (1 leg in/1 leg out), and the remainder being 2 legs in/1 leg out - and vice versa. We haven't heard specifics on how the TNT acquisition will change intra-EUR flying. Our SVP of Flt Ops has hinted that the TNT deal will only improve/increase flying in EUR, but until it's 'painted purple and sitting on the ramp' it's all speculation at this point.

It has been easy to get the CGN domicile award since many of our guys seem to cycle out at the 2/2.5 year mark.

Now, as to you leaving DAL and giving up 2500 numbers (you must be about 80th percentile right?), that's a very tough call - a big seniority position to give up. The grass is greener in some ways, but not in many others. At the end of the day it's what you make of it... and your seniority.

Good luck.

On the last practice bid, new hires just made 757Captain. Is this a joke?

The FAA is going to love that.

They already think we are super-human and don't need the same rest that our pax brothers get. So, brand new 757 cargo-carved-out captains should be no big deal.

BTW, I thought you were exaggerating. Just looked at the final practice bid (which should be closest to next Monday's reality). Wow, new hires indeed to M57C. That's ****ing awesome! Good on them!

Good on them but not so good on the FO who's got to fly with them.
