Seriously, people, we've hired a whopping 7 people (internals) in the past 2.5 years! I wouldn't hold my breath for fedex. We're shrinking the pilot numbers, planning to do more with less. I'll believe we're hiring when I see fresh faces in the AOC. Until then...

There was actually a new posting put out internally last Thursday. I don't think there are that many internals left that are eligible at this point. My guess is that externals will likely be looked at this time around.

Any idea how many apps are on file ?

What affect the pilot shortage will have on the ramped up hiring of 7 people ? If they hire triple that amount in 2015 (21 people), will FedEx have trouble recruiting people ?

Yep. Might just be a sideshow for contract negotiations. I've heard rumors of upcoming finagling and work-arounds so that they'll be able to use more of the flex instructors in the left seat by next peak. Ignore the contract, pare back the staffing by attrition, and circumvent the contract to get through peak = little to no hiring. But, hey, a little fake hiring sideshow wouldn't hurt that cause at all.

Yes. True. But I say again, doing more with less, which is why we need to secure an awesome contract.

And yes, I think we might triple our number of pilots hired to make it 21 hired in 2015.

But I'm just a lowly RSV line holder who has no more insight than anyone else!!

Just finished Charm school(Capt's school) today. All the mukety mucks said 150-200 retirements a year for quite a while and are planning on hiring around 200 a year for the for seeable future. The problem that we are having is being able to train the new hires because they will mostly be going to the 757 F/O seat. We are apparently getting another 757 Sim soon. They also mentioned possibly doing away with 1500 PIC requirement. We'll see, all future plans at Fedex are in pencil so they can be easily changed:)

Welcome to the UPS A$$ Pain. Not one New Hire for 7 Years!! 2.5 years is nothing. With your Retirement Numbers, I see Hiring soon there.

Maybe I got my numbers confused. 1000 sounds right?

1,000 is correct

MEMA300 03-12-2015 08:36 AM

They originally increased the internal requirements to the same as external since so many new hires were on a fast track to wide body FO. I wonder if that might change since most new hires will be 757 FO's.
