Default 3000 TT Commercial w Type - How to get ATP ?

I have a buddy who is a 3000 TT Multi-Commercial with King Air 350 type. Got typed last year. He has no ATP written.

He wants to get his ATP. He has King Air recurrent late 2017.

Post rule change, does anyone have a plain English explanation of what he needs and how he needs to do it.

Thank you

He will need to take the ATP-CTP course in order to take his written and practical since the "new" rule went into effect a couple years ago. Better to get on with a company willing to pay for it since it is quite costly.

Research places offering the ATP-CTP class. If his recurrent will let him do the ATP checkride, he needs to finish it before then.

Going rate is $4-5K for the class, which takes about a week. Once he finishes, he'll need to study for the actual knowledge test and take that someplace.

If it's through CAE they can do the CTP course on property... for like $5k the week or so before and then take the written then he can pay another $1500 for the ATP checkride at recurrent. He should contact them directly about it.

That's for the CTP class. They'll do the 10 hours of sim for the CTP in a 737 or something, he'll get the graduation certificate from the CTP and can then take the written. Then he can go to recurrent and do the checkride as an ATP ride.

As pointed out, what you learn in the CTP has nothing to do with what you need to know to pass the written. Some CTP programs include Sheppard Air with the fee to get you up to speed for the written.
