Doesn't Alpha Flying out of Manchester, NH fly the Pilatus PC-12 single-engine turbine under part 91 with 2 pilots? Their ops specs say that the 2nd pilot is required for their operation while the aircraft is certified for single pilot operations. The 2nd pilot legally logs SIC time because of the ops specs. So in this case, even if the aircraft is not certified as requiring the SIC, SIC time can be legally logged.

I think Alpha operates under 91(k) [fractional ops]. Anything that is in the Ops Specs has to be approved by the FAA. Anything that is approved by the FAA is considered law. So you can make a single pilot PC-12 into two-pilot operation. But you cannot make a single pilot C172 into a two-pilot operation. You do not have an Ops Spec manual or TCO requiring that because you don't have a Air Agency or Air Carrier certificate. Besides, how does SIC C172 look for a professional pilot?

If you are trained and there's an approval for 2-pilot ops for that 135 company defined in their op specs. Then you can log PIC for all legs that you are sole manipulator of the controls. Otherwise it's SIC or just TT

I believe that is all correct, but I've never seen their ops specs, but I'm guessing it's in there. I more so agree on your last sentence. Any single engine time with one safety pilot an other under the hood is loggable as PIC only during the time of actively being a safety pilot.
