Whoa there I didn't mean any hostility! When I said this:

I was making fun of the wording in the post above me, which read:

Yeah I admit it was stupid, but so is shouting "embry sucks" without fully explaining oneself, as some here have done. Sorry for the mix-up.

Both of us are at Daytona in the new hire class which ends Tuesday. After that it's 3 sims, 3 flights, and the "acceptance ride" which is a 4th flight and you're officially hired.

Gotcha. I'm at PRC, my class starts Aug. 4, then it's the whole round of flight activities. Best of luck over there, have fun!

Embry-Riddle sucks.
explaination: I went there and it was a huge waste of time and money. You don't need a G1000 172 to get a private. Simulators are pretty much worthless (at least to most major airlines). You don't spend that much time flying by the time you get through dispatch and out to the runway. You're paying while those engines run. (Especially those DA42's in which the gearbox alone has a 300tbo and costs $16000 each, not to mention the whole theilert swindle).
But hey if you like a 9:1 guy to girl ratio and star trek movie night don't let me talk you out of it.

Embry-Riddle sucks.
Thanks for your comment...I'm sure others are really going to take that into consideration...sounds like someone's bitter because mommy and daddy ran out of money...or you're just lazy.

Any backup to that? Didn't think so...like I said above...you're probably lazy and want everything handed to you.

You don't need a G1000 172 to get a private.
And who says you need steam gauges? After the tornado the decision was made to get G1000 and the latest package, the Nav III. That doesn't mean that people CAN'T fly without a G1000. We still have Arrows for your steam gauge experience.

Simulators are pretty much worthless (at least to most major airlines).
I can give you a little leway on this for VFR operations...but for IFR? No way. The sims are cheaper than the aircraft and give you virtually the same experience. 2/3 of my instrument was in the sim...made it much cheaper for me when I still learned the same thing. They're also REQUIRED for Part 142 operations.

You don't spend that much time flying by the time you get through dispatch and out to the runway.
Oh really? When was the last time you were here? The weight and balance on the computer puts in your airspeeds and weight and balance numbers as well as a METAR all by itself now. Granted you'll still be required to do it by hand, but now you get the clipboard, print out the W&B, and you're out the door preflighting in 5 minutes.

You're paying while those engines run. (Especially those DA42's in which the gearbox alone has a 300tbo and costs $16000 each, not to mention the whole theilert swindle).
Which is why Riddle has made the decision to get rid of the Diamonds for the Fall 2008-Spring 2009 semester. We've already got 6 Seminoles back on the ramp and they're in full use.

But hey if you like a 9:1 guy to girl ratio and star trek movie night don't let me talk you out of it.
You're acting like it really matters. By now you should have realized that Riddle isn't your normal college and that there's not parties every night. If you're looking for that, then you should probably be at a community college somewhere. People come here for an education not to waste their lives being drunk.

Im sorry man but I gotta comment on this. First off, there were a ton of parties. I just think you weren't invited. Second off, I never saw so many stupidly drunk people that wasted an aviation career before they had even gotten to that career. Im not sure if you remember but every monday you gotta take the elevator in the dorms because it is a guarantee that someone ralphed all over the stairs from drinking too much.

Stupid drunk stuff at Riddle: Jumping the fence to steal gators; hanging off the statue in front of the student village and breaking it. (not even sure if that is still there.) Filling the elevators with furniture to the top; Pulling the fire alarms at 3am. And I remember countless days when students were literally passed out in class at 2PM because the were still drunk. It was all rather amusing but I had to correct you there.

Mom and Dad didn't pay for anything, I wasn't part of the lucky sperm bank.. I paid for it all...and because of which I ended up finishing my ratings outside of Riddle. The most frusterating part was realizing that an FBO around the corner could give you 5 times the value. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers.
I forgot to mention the $1100/credit hour "ground school".
As far as a personal insult of being lazy, I had to serve tables to pay my way through school...I'm not sure if you spent your own money, but perhaps you'd feel a little different if you had.

Honestly, my mom is paying for it and I pay for rental flights...and I'm here helping her make every penny worth it. I'm not a big drinker and I don't smoke first of all. I went from Inst-CFII in 10 months, I'm on the Flight Team, and I did Fast Track (saved $3000 in tuition...they waived the credit hour charge for that ground lab). Now I'm at the point where I can start actually making money in the aviation world and I'm happy about it.

And with the post above this one...I agree with you. I haven't seen people really passed out but there's been cases in Doolittle last year where people took furniture and were loud at 3am and all that stuff...typical college life there though. I didn't see too many cases of drunkenness...maybe that's because no one in my hall really drank. I'm out of the dorms now though and I'm so happy about it.

Wow.

Hopefully we've established that the right college differs among people. I'm not trying to sell Riddle at all...I know it's not the right college for everyone. I'm simply, and trying, to just share my experience with our fellow high-school pilot-to-be's where we once were. I sent in four college apps my senior year of HS and for me ERAU was the one I chose, after much deliberation of whether I can afford it or not. We all have our opinion on whether or not it's worth it, and I believe we've expressed them.

Hey, I had fun in the dorms, sneaking in alcohol and such. (I was a drinker [well, still am, not as much], but not a smoker) It's important to have fun indeed, however you consider fun to be. I lived my first two years in the dorms, it was a great way to meet people. In fact, I'm still living with the two guys I've lived with since Freshman year. We were probably the ones who were making the noise at 3am, sorry. I don't know if Daytona does the First Year Experience thing for Freshmen, but I would recommend to stay away from it. I wasn't part of it and am glad because as far as I can tell the people that I knew who were in it hated it. You were required to attend every little campus event, were isolated with the other freshmen from the upper classmen, and didn't have the best dorms available (from Prescott point of view that is).

To the person who wanted to get more information, hopefully we've helped. If not, please let us know.

And also, I would agree that the G1000 is not the best airplane for primary students, instrument yes, but not the basic VFR stuff. As a flight instructor, I'm going to try to emphasize on not relying on everything the the magic G1000 can do for us. However, our Seminoles still have the steam to them and that's what we use for our instrument ride for the certificate. As far as simulators are concerned, yeah we are considered "sim jockeys", but realize we were a Part 142 school during my time as a student (We've gone back to 141 last year). I don't see sims used too much for primary students, only to help procedures, but in instrument training they are. I have about 80 hrs in the sim myself, to give somewhat of a perspective.
