Would a BS degree help getting airlines job?
Hi all, I'm a new member to the forum.
I've passion for flying. I am now in th eUS and finishing my BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. I'm planning to go for flight training once i start working fulltime. Would having a bachelor degree in engineering and having some years of work experience help me in getting jobs at the airlines at all? How should I go about flight training? I'm not really sure how many hour do i actually need to get my private. some school show 90-120 hours, some say 40-50 hours. I'm quite confused. I'm 23 right now. Is it too late for flight training? What is the preferred or average age for FO hiring? Thanks!

Hey,
Yes, your degree will help you, maybe not to get a job with regionals but once you will be ready to move up to the major airlines...it will help a lot!
you are still young enough to consider a career in aviation!!
Good luck!

The Airlines (Majors) don't care what your degree is in. All it shows is that you have the self discipline to get through the training, as well as meeting what every one else has as far as credentials. But start saving for your flight training now! The more you have saved up, the faster you can get through the training.

A BS degree may help, but a BS degree works just the same
But seriously...just get a 4 year degree in something and save some money for the flight training.
A piece of paper doesnt say much as to how you fly. Thats all up to you.

I agree, I think the nice thing about it is to be able to work and save up for fly training. That and something for you to fall back on in case something happen in the future and you cannot fly. That's y i decided to get my degree first. Thanks for your input!

I was able to get hired at a regional without a degree, but it will be tough for me to do anything else. It would be smart to complete your degree first. Besides, it gives you something to fall back on. Recently I was furloughed and without a degree I'm now pumping gas at the airport...
