Let's see... my "entry level" job paid 34,000 a year.
So YES that's the solution.
Why fly a jet for 16K when you can fly a Cessna for 70K anyway?
By the way, Edward Liddy made $63 million for the 5 years before his drastic pay cut, his salary going down to $1 in 2009 still left him with a $500,000 bonus paycheck and between 10 and 20 million in stock gains... I'd work for a buck if the job included a $500,000 bonus, but I don't think many contract airlines do that. Furthermore he spent 20+ years accruing a massive fortune, and corporate CEOs with his wealth are outnumbered Airline Pilots in this country by a wide margin, it's kind of like comparing Apples to Oil Tankers.

listen son, the short answer to your subject post is yes.
don't let anybody tell you that you shouldn't fly. it's the greatest gift we have given ourselves. whether or not you do it for a living, for God sakes, do it because it's fun.

Also, I'll put the plug in for looking at a local AIR National Guard unit. The benefits they offer for schooling are awesome. I enlisted, and graduated college with up through my CFII, with only 5k in debt. Even if you never fly in the military, it's a great way to pay for college. Makes the low pay of all the entry level jobs, easier to manage! Remember I said AIR Guard not ARMY guard....you'll thank me later

I am back 15 a few months later. I have read these responses and have a few things to say. I do not have a "zeal" for flying; stop being so dramatic. I think that a lot of people have had bad luck in the industry and have become a little jaded and disillusioned with aviation. My dream is to go to flight school and become either a corporate pilot or FedEx pilot. My parents know many people who work at FedEx that can give me recommendations. We fairly close to the FedEx main hub. Obviously I won't live in my parent's house, but I can easily live close to the hub. My first backup plan is the air national guard. My second backup plan is an engineering degree. The reason engineering is not my first choice is that I don't enjoy it as much as flying. I never liked school, and I don't think I would like a white-collar desk job much better. I am not very good at math, and that is a large part of engineering. I appreciate all the people who gave it to me straight and weren't being dramatic and whiny. Thanks for all the help guys. Also, I'll probably stick around on the forums. I am not easily swayed, so I don't think staying around is going to make me hate flying.
