Who gives a crap.........
Go where you want to go to school and give the rest of it a rest. You already know where you want to go, you've decided who sucks, and who doesn't. Everybody's got their damned oppinions. This arguing over school's has come down to high school crap. Just do what you think is right, get everybody's oppinion, give it some thought, and move on... This site is here for help and advice, that's about it. Sometimes we like to talk and joke on a few matters, otherwise we are all here to give each other the scoop on what's going on. Have a wonderful evening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
P.S. I have had a few beers......

I agree with you 100%, I don't give a crap where anybody goes, I would never think anything less of a pilot because of where they did their training. I just can't stand it when people on these forums talk about something they have no clue what they are talking about. Personally I am not trying to start any fights about this crap.
de727ups, exactly my point, that is what you have been hearing. Rumors just like most people on here. Honestly, I didn't want to work for ATP, the pay sucks, and I live 45 minutes away from my airport. I spend way to much in gas, but the multi-time is the only reason I am there. They always have students coming in, I always know that I will be flying at least 45-60 hours every month, and trust me, the koolaid isn't that good. I would have loved to find an FBO in my area that had a multi, my wife is a teacher and moving wasn't an option. I only have one option if I wanted to keep flying a multi.

I like the above posts...We each has our own reason for going to an FBO or ATPs. We can only do what is best for us. I for one plan on going to ATPs for their fixed price, fast pace, and ME time.
'I'll be 40 / 41 and I'd like to be at a regional by 44. My logic gives me the best odds of that happening with ATPs.

Hi again,
So ATP sounds like a good place to train- big fleet of ME aircraft, set price, little waiting, nationwide XCs, and one can get done fast. But can ATP grads get CFI jobs anywhere else besides ATP?? My old FBO told me they wouldn't hire one, so I really wonder.
Next question-- can ATP trained grads get jobs at regional airlines other than Air Wisconsin, Express Jet, PSA... it seems like the options for regional placement and the "agreements" that ATP has with airlines are kind of narrow, or is that just me?
As always, thanks everyone.

A,
You can get a job at any regional in the US. You only need to meet their hiring mins. Concentrate for now on getting your ratings and hours in the most efficient manner.
Their relationship with the regionals is business. Don't read too much into it. Going to ATP will not limit you in any way.

...I'm sure our resident ATP CFIs will shed some accuracy on the subject.

Gotta agree with that.
For example, look at an NFL football team...say the DB's. You have different guys playing the same position, however, were trained differently depending on where they attended college. The training for the position is basically the same wherever you go, it's the individual that separates himself from the rest.

I looked for a flight school for the better part of a year. Where would one go that is not a pilot mill? I have a professional job, 29, house, wife....good life. I want to move on to be a pilot. I live in the Dallas area and don't want to quit my job and rush through pilot training. I looked at several FBO's around here (there are quite a few airports in the DFW area). All quoted the 40 hour price for the PPL. When I asked what most students do I got everything from "you will get it in 40 hours" to "maybe a little more." Really vauge. I looked at DCA....but that would involve quitting work and moving to Florida. So I looked at US Flight Academy in Denton, Skymates in Arlington and ATP in Arlington. These were more than FBO's, had several aircraft including multiengines and with the exception of US Flight Academy, had clear prices posted. I chose ATP only because I felt more comfortable with their program versus Skymates. I did like the planes Skymates uses for PPL more than ATP....but that's about it. I get so tired of hearing "pilot mill" without backing it up or explaining it. I am a bit leary of the 90 day programs. The company I work for gives people 6 months to learn one software program (we write it....very customized). I don't know how one could really learn everything about flying (beyond the PPL) in 90 days. I guess they do. For me I am doing self paced. I finished the PPL in 3 months flying 4 days a week. Mostly evenings except for Sundays which I did mornings. I start the career program at the end of the month. I should be done in 6-7 months. I like taking my time and really reading and taking in what I am doing. Hmm....this is one of those damn long post I hate reading...bleh.
There isn't that much to learn - thats how people do it in 90 days. Everything you need to know ATP gives you. Any person of average IQ, average physical anility, above / high motivation (this is the key) can do it in 90 days.
You'll only start to learn once you are the CFI and the student is looking to you for the answers...Just ask any 2Lt / Ensign in the military....
