IFR questions
I haven't done IFR yet, and a friend of mine is about to start his PPL. Would it save him time and money to do some of his solos XC to speed up the IFR training in the future.
I didn't do any XC and looking at the requirements for IFR it looks like I should have done some XC.

It all depends on if you are part 61 or 141. Part 61.65 states in 61.65(d) (1) that you need 50 hours of x-c time as pic, of which 10 hours must be in an airplane. That is if you are going for an instrument-airplane rating.
Then you got part 141. Part 141.C (appendix C) 4.(a)(1) says you need 35 hours of flight time and in section 4.(c)(1) defines the x-c requirement.
All that to say if you do this part 141, you will not need the 50 hours x-c. However, if you fly with an instructor who is part 61, then you will need the x-c hours anyway when you train for you commercial.
