Online vs Campus
Greetings all! I love this forum, such great advice. Now I seek some: I want to major in aviation admin. I know a degree in flight is not recommended, hence the combo with business. I am considering Utah Valley's "Global" online program or one of the OK schools (OSU or OU). Here's my concern: The Global program is all online, so no interaction with professors and other students, no networking (at least not as much), and no internship. The OK path is just the opposite. How valuable is an internship really in the aviation field? Does it really matter? I could start the Utah degree this fall, where I would have to wait a year for the OK schools (tuition purposes). I am weighing the year wait period vs no internship or personal contact. Thoughts, recommendations? All input is GREATLY appreciated, thanks!!
Happy landings!

Regarding networking, it's a tough question to answer now since your greatest benefit from networking could be many years down the road, at a time when you least expect it. Let's put it this way, you can never network too much.

An internship at a major (I repeat M A J O R) airline could very well be priceless. I know several guys who got hired at majors with 1000 TSIC (ie 15 months at mesa airlines) based on the fact that they had done a college internship there.
Internships at other aviation outfits, including regionals, are not particularly beneficial to your career.
But don't forget the most important consideration...do you want to interact with REAL members of the opposite sex, or settle for internet porn? Go for the real college experience if you can afford it.

I would go on-campus.
Maybe see if you can knock out some gen-eds and 100 level stuff at a community college or online so you aren't a whole year behind? And maybe get private pilot and/or instrument in the meanwhile? Just make sure classes and ratings will transfer into the degree you are going for.

I still miss college after being out for almost 3 years!! The friends I've made, parties, and late night random adventures we took to get away from the craziness are priceless. I simply wish I could go back. But mostly, I miss the education. I have made friends with a couple of professors and have been very much in touch ever since. When I talk to a prof. it brings back happy memories of school. I doubt an online degree would have given me nearly the satisfaction I experienced.

The Aviation Administration is also available online now. Thanks for your input! And Pearl I completely agree about missing out on the experience. I just wondered if anyone would have done it differently.

As someone who is doing taking classes on campus at UVU I can tell you it's a sinking ship. If you want the campus experience go somewhere else and get your degree done elsewhere. There is a mass exodus of students leaving the program because of the poor way in which things are run.
This is just one of many stories.

I'm not saying not to go the campus route, just not this one. Good luck.

Yeah online maybe more convenient, but I have made several great connections at school. Some are aviation related, others have no idea how an airplane even works. Your aviation professors will be great assets for you when it comes time to start looking for a job.
Plus, you can watch Van Wilder movies all night long, only in college do you get the chance to live it out.
Go to college, skip online.
