737NG rating with only 6 Sessions
Most schools are advertising a 737NG initial rating program with 6 sim sessions before the ride.
But is 6 sim sessions sufficient if you study hard and work hard during the course?
I've never done a jet rating before, and 6 just does not seem like very much.
I could see it easily turning into 10 sessions, and that's a huge chunk of extra $$$.
Anyone here who's ever worked at a 737 school care to comment?

Have you ever trained for something like this before? Do you know what to do ahead of time? Do you know how to study the systems and how they operate? Do you know how to get used to where everything is located(get cockpit diagrams)? Do you know the flows ahead of time(ask for them when you sign up)? Do you know the expected profiles(ask for them when you sign up)? Are you instrument-proficient (especially with the types of guages/screens and systems you'll be using)? There's lots you can do to be well prepared. Never ever go into these things "blind" and expecting them to hold your hand or guide you through. If you're getting a type, you know what you have to do at this point to prepare.

More of it depends on how you prepare yourself. At a previous job I was hired into the A-300 after coming out of a Dash 8. The 6th time I was in the sim was my checkride. Some schools have ground based trainers. (paper trainers, IPT's what ever you want to call them) These train you on procedures and usually FMS stuff. Takes care of most of the learning curve if you take it seriously. When I went into the 300 we did not have the luxury of the it but they do really help with learning flows and stuff.
All in all work hard, take it seriously and you will be fine. After all, if it is a place that you are paying for a 737 type like some of the well known places, they have put thousands of people through and know how to get it doen at minimal expenses to themselves. You will do fine!!!
