FSDO CFI Renewal for 121 SIC?
Just curious to know if anybody knows or has heard of a FSDO or inspector that will renew a CFI certificate for a current 121 SIC?
I've heard of several FSDOs processing the renewal for current 121 PICs without the need for a FIRC, under the "duties and responsibilities" of 61.197. Just not sure if anybody has heard of them doing it for an SIC.
Would love to avoid having to do a FIRC if I can help it.

It's actually hard to find a FSDO which will renew a (non check-airman) 121 line pilot based on his regulatory duty to instruct FO's. I don't think an SIC even remotely qualifies under the language.

I believe the language for a Fed to renew on D&R includes "has personal knowledge of the applicant" thus it's difficult to just show up at a FSDO expecting to get a renewal from whoever has the desk duty that day. The exceptions are if you know one of the inspectors, obviously; and some POIs will sign off guys at the carrier they are overseeing - some even will renew FOs that are in the training department. Regular line FOs are pretty much out of luck, just the way it is. Standard disclaimer: YMWV.
