I think that's what he was referring to. So that's one from Hong Kong and one Japanese. Also, don't forget about Korean Air who have U.S. bases.

KAL doesn't technically have bases in the US, the schedulers will (If there are enough crew members commuting from that city) reverse schedule their US pilots from that city but it isn't always possible.

In the past few years it seems like almost all airlines that try to open US and EU bases fail doing so. It seems like just an attempt to get pilots to sign a contract for less money. I think Cathay did it for a while, and NCA. Most others, it didn't work out, or last very long.

The only way it might work out long term is if you are flexible. If they deadhead you from home, and pay you for it, it is a good deal. In the case of Chinese airlines, you will probably end up DH from home, and then flying your monthly schedule domestically within China. Chinese pilots get paid a lot extra for international flights, so you are only going to fly them if they are short of their own pilots. Some airlines pay their pilots double for international flights.

Nippon Cargo is a very good gig if one has B747-400 time but Cathay's pay, other perks, as well as taxation issues along with few hiring has made it unattractive gig.
