Thats interesting since most post 9/11 long term orders have been USERRA exempt per congress because we need so many pilots in the Reserves to do these deployments. I was on mil leave for 7 years from a commuter and never got a bit of hassle about it. I got asked about it in my NJA interview and was just honest that I was getting MIL PIC time verse's trying to live on $24 an hour in the right seat of an ERJ. Our DO said "I'l buy that, we would like you to work here but I thank you for your service" Got the job offer the next day.

CAL paid a multi million dollar fine for firing a reservist after 9/11, guy got re-instated and all seniority restored, its a big deal for a company to violate USERRA and military goes after companies who do pretty aggressively as they need people to fly in the reserves. I don't think NJA would be hostile to military from what I have seen as long as it's not abused!
I know a person in my unit that got a call from UAL Cheif pilot who told them "I don't care if you take mil leave and I can't do anything about it but your really screwing your fellow pilots when you drop mil leave 12 hours from your show, just saying people are noticing your keep doing this". Best smart and do what your supposed to do!

I wouldn’t say NJA is abusive to reservists at all. But if they want to get rid of you, they will find a way. People do stupid crap too.

I haven't seen "hostility" from the company, but definitely some passive aggressiveness (and I never abused mil leave). Also, the contract language regarding mil leave goes against USERRA. The Union and (I'm assuming) the company were informed of this well before the contract in 2015 by multiple military guys, but the language never got changed... Basically it says you can't volunteer for military days unless it's during your time off.

Bingo, and that is in direct violation of USERRA. Problem is, it’s a CBA so the company feels they have a leg to stand on when taking action against a pilot.

Federal law trumps the contract, if I was ever targeted I would get a good lawyer and JAG involved. I'm retiring though so this is someone else game now!

And guess who you have to thank for it? The same schmuck who routinely negotiates contracts that reward some and punish others.

It is long past time for new blood in that chair.

The DOL has a whole cadre of lawyers of their own. Having used them before for a minor hiccup with a previous employer they (the lawyers) don't take this stuff lightly.

A crapload of extra cash for the Bubba Club and a few sheckels for the rest.

You see, it’s an “incentive” pay scheme...

If you fly more than 12.1 hours per tour you will get an extra $118/hr.

If you fly back side of the clock you get paid an extra $50/hr.

If you are on duty between 2300-0759 you get paid an extra $50/ hr.

If you have reached the 10 hour of duty point and they choose to sit on airport appreciation, you get paid $50/hour.

1/3 of the above pay is put into you 401k as a company contribution. (It doesn’t count against your max yearly contribution) The other 2/3 go into your paycheck. Some fleets do better than others. I’m in the 350 and over the first two paychecks I have averaged and extra $1500.

Is it good or bad, I can’t tell you yet. Check back in a year.
