My friends at Netjets tell me it is a mixed bag. Some pros/cons:

Some Pros:
1. Nice equipment replacing some of the older airframes (incoming Longitudes look nice!)
2. Home basing (not worried about commute)
3. Varied and sometimes challenging flying
4. Over time you can fly worldwide (Global)
5. Some people really like the schedule options (E.G. 7/7)
5. Can make good money as a Captain - the latest contract has some improvements

Some Cons:
1. Upgrade can take years (although may be improving as the old farts gradually leave)
2. Frequent minimum rest on the road with fatigue as they try to “optimize” pilot utilization - some fleets are very busy and pilots can feel very fatigued. The upside is now crews are paid more per hour beyond a certain hour number per tour (after 12.5 hours?) which leads to fewer fatigue calls
3. Unlike the airlines, you often need to restock and clean the airplanes (ie cleaning up “rich boy pi$$” off the $hitter ain’t fun when nobody else can help)

I am sure I forgot some important pros and cons. In any case, it is a very different job from an airline job. To sum up, the equipment is great (a friend on the Latitude loves it), the flying is varied/challenging and Captain pay is very good when you upgrade, but the trade off is a lot of fatiguing flying with frequent min rest and currently a slowish upgrade. A few friends who have recently left Netjets for Spirit, SWA and JetBlue feel they work a lot less at the airlines.

Again, I am sure actual Netjets pilots can provide a lot more details....

I left NJA for a major and never looked back. The flying might be more interesting at NJA but I fly enough interesting stuff in my spare time that I could care less about flying into some podunk middle of nowhere airport in a Phenom. I care about money, time off, job security, retirement, and QOL on the road, and a major airline checks those boxes over NJA.

A lot of guys and girls enjoy the job and are amused by the “ hate “ on these boards, the spirit guys pity remark made me smile though, I will leave it at that. To each their own. Cheers. This place is a bit of an echo chamber, no one really cares, or takes note of what is posted here, still there is a certain mischievous glee to be found in stirring things up , God forgive me, I have often been guilty of the latter. : )

Some like Italian.

Some like Sushi.

At both, sometimes there is a wait to get seated (upgrade). You assumed the upgrade was going to be fast and hedged your bets in 2015. When it didn’t happen, you went elsewhere.

How is the upgrade coming now that you started over? It will be much less than that by the time the 13 year wait SICs upgrade at current rate.

That would but you upgrade about just at 4 years from now had you stayed. Possibly sooner if the number is increased following next years training shift to AQP. Never know.

You’re doing it your way and everyone has to respect that. I do... because you’re happy.

Oh man, if you're talking about leaving Eagle for NJA I don't know enough to comment on that. NJA is a decent job and that might be a good idea. But if you're talking about leaving a flow through to AA that is just crazy and will be a mistake you will regret for the rest of your life. I left a 200 and change number at NJA for a major and my only regret is not leaving sooner. Truly not even comparable.

I think what most fellow pilot are saying. Do your homework look into the mirror talk with your family. Don’t regret jumping ship for crew meals and the idea that you will get top dollar. My numbers earlier were conservative based upon min flying 75 hrs at AA or 7/7 at NJA. There is plenty of overtime at both companies. Both companies are unionized and support their pilots. I don’t think going either direction is a bad thing. At the end of the day what is it you want from AA/NJA. Arguing quality of Life is pointless when you compare the top two companies in different fields. (Operationally).

Also keep in mind anything said here is not law or guaranteed. I can call two NJA pilots I’m friends with. One will tell you he loves NJA and everything about it. The other will paint a gloomy picture 13 year upgrades, fatigue blah blah blah. But on the same token. I know two AA pilots who see AA in completely different lights.

Well said.

I will say that if you are wired for airline life, you will hate NetJets. Conversely, if you are wired to love more spontaneous and dynamic operations like NJA, you will love NJA. If the day to day elements of normal airline life make you wanna kill yourself, you may really like NJA. Giving up flow at AA with the outlook if the airline industry being so positive, would not be my recommendation if you enjoy or tolerate the airlines for what they are.

We are pilots, we are programmed to whine and moan about everything. I would ask, of your AA buddies that can’t stand AA, how many of them have their apps in at NJA? My guess is the answer is zero.

All good info yall. One thing to note is NJA and AA or any other legacy are two completely different companies in the same industry.

Im fine with AA and the flow and doing the airline thing.

NJA is appealing with the 100% paid medial/dental/vision, good pay, advanced jets, live whereever I want, no commute, gain hotel and airline points.

Buying airline tickets and hotels with points or at least heavily discounted is way better than Non-rev in my opinion. I buy tickets more than I nonrev now bc of the loads and stress it creates.

Comparing NJA and AA is a very difficult task. Both have benefits and downfalls. Obviously top end pay at AA is more than top end at NJA.
But do the added benefits of NJA outweigh the pay? Maybe.

QOL is king in this industry. Having the ability to have 7on/7off is incredible. Try visiting family across country or doing something of value with 3 days off. not gonna happen.

How many NJ pilots leave to go to the majors?

How many Major pilots leave to go to NJ?

that should tell you everything.

PS: $500 worth of hotel points is worth $500, maybe.

You cant judge it off how many leave major to NJ vs NJ to majr.
You can only judge it by getting an insight on how green the grass really is. Which ever turns out to be greener in your eyes is the better option. Im looking now bc in about 5 years ill be at AA with flow...rn is perfect time to decide. My career can fork and go to NJ or go the other way to majors...whichever i choose itll become a career not a stepping stone.
