A huge PIC bid of more than 30 positions across multiple fleets just dropped. This is a shuffle some of us predicted would come after the company figured out how many were taking the signing bonus parting gift and 12 months of “free” healthcare to practice retirement for a year before actually pulling the plug. There were four of those just in my small fleet of fewer than 90 pilots.

The picture will be further clarified when the dust settles from the numbers that take the newly available 8-6 schedule starting in June.

Once those staffing questions are answered, they’ll decide whether they need more bodies. Might actually see a tiny bit of hiring before the end of the year if the collapse of Covid cases continues and international travel starts to improve this sumner.

Great info. Thanks for sharing. The tiny light at the end of the tunnel just got a little bigger.

The bid was actually for 41 PIC positions across 7 fleets and the company says to expect more bids. The idea is to compress re-training and aircraft heavy maintenance into the first half of the year in order to take advantage of what they believe will be a very busy second half of 2021.

Still a few large questions with Covid and the US/World economies yet to be answered that will be the deciding factors.

When they retire those old birds, you are welcome to scrunch down in the mighty Phenom with me. I'd pay good money to see you in there....knees by your ears....

Even though it sounds like friendly banter, if that is true with your knees, you will fit test out.

Although you're right about never fitting in the Phenom, given that yesterday's bid result means I'm now senior to the most junior Global PIC, I'm not too worried about ever needing to take the test...

I would suggest making the jump to the Global soon. I have flown with more than one Global Captain who didn't depart the BBJ for the G-IVs when they could have and then got stuck in the Sovereign for 8 years when bids dried up. While it is unlikely for Global bids to go completely away for quite some time, one never knows what will happen and you would also probably get a lot more international flying, if that is what you like, by the time you get done with training.

Tempting, but, no. I'm riding this pony until it founders.

International flying on this gig is no longer an enticing thing.
