Just curious what is the nearest base to you and how long of a drive would it be to get to it. The important point is if you are home standby they want you to get to the FBO at your domicile no later than 2 hours after the FOC calls you with a flight. At Plane Sense crash pads are not a cost of doing business because we are either home or at a hotel paid for by the company.

Yes, they do take the 2 hour limit (mostly) seriously. However, in almost 4 years there I got a call once on home standby. And I’m local to PSM. So there’s that.

When do you normally know your flight schedule for each hitch?

The day before your 8 days start at the earliest. And you'll only know the schedule a day in advance the whole trip since it changes so much. There are no "schedules"

How often do remote based pilots actually end up on home standby mid-rotation?

Their point is that they would get a crash pad within the 2 hour reserve window so they can sit home standby there instead of 2.5 hours away at their actual home. What they want to know is if this will satisfy the basing requirement without them having to move their primary residence. A fair question.

I don’t know the bases anymore but lets say MDW is a base but DSM isn’t. Lets say this poster lives near DSM, but is willing to get a crash pad and drive there to spend their “home standby” within the 2 hour window.

I don’t think he’s asking for special treatment, just if he has to actually “live” within the 2 hour callout or if simply always being within 2 hours of the actual base will suffice.

I would say that if he can provide an address that is within 100 miles of a base then do it, even if it's only going to be used as a crash pad.

Very fair question, but this would be a total waste of money. Remote based pilots generally do their "home standby" in PSM. Ymmv....

Yes. I had home standby once in my time there. Most of the standby will be airport standby in PSM or hotel standby in the PSM Hampton
