[QUOTE=Toonces;3080989]I doubt they would waive it. Even with the direct entry captain “warm-up-as-an-FO-til-you’re-comfortable” program, they need you to be a rock solid instrument pilot.
I would say I am a solid instrument pilot (I teach instrument students daily) but I am just missing the Instrument time.
Would you mind explaining that “warm-up-as-an-FO-til-you’re-comfortable” program you have mentioned? I am guessing that is what people are referring to as DEC?
Thanks for the help!

Once hired you do a few cycles in the right seat.
Competitive hiring mins for DECs typically don't involve less than 100 instrument. They look for people who have experience flying in the system. If you're really interested apply as an fo then upgrade within a year. Ok to ask about this in the interview. They hire future captains, not FOs.

When you say you're a "solid instrument pilot," how much experience do you have in 200VV RVR1800, etc. Hard IFR and not just teaching it. Reason I'm saying this is not to be rude. Rather get a better understanding of your experiences. As PIC, as you know, you're responsible of course and most likely will be sitting with a new green FO straight out of IOE and that will drive it home. When I first upgraded, it drove it home for me. With 90% of your flying in the spring and summer in the vortex, you will shoot routinely to 200VV PSM MVY/ACK without question. Its not a big deal once you do it again and again, but it is different. You must be on top of your game. Throw all of that with a new plane, complex avionics and a lot of "comfortability" flies right out of the window. Compile that with the operation to learn it can be overwhelming depending on how you organize your time and run your ship.

That's fair, makes sense. Thank you for elaborating.
Do they upgrade FO's to captain as soon as they have the minimums or how does that process work?
Thank you for your help

When I did it many moons ago, you had to meet the mins, have 3 LORs etc. Prior to that, about 100 hrs, you notified CPO and you were setup for a 3 or 4 day upgrade evaluation. Flown from the right seat. You do the flight planning and decision making etc and you're evaluated. Pretty straigh forward. After that your recommended for upgrade. When you hit your time, you again notify CPO and you are then awarded an upgrade class. You'll do a week long ground school followed by a written test covering MSPECS and OPSPECS and other company business. Once that is done, you then go out for upgrade cycles. You'll go out with an IP for 2 or 3 rotations flying from the left and covering a bunch of items verbally and flying. You'll then go to sims in Dallas. You'll go for 4 sims and a checkride. Once you pass, you'll go back for a line check then back out with an IP for 2 or so rotations. Then you're cut loose to fly with non-green FOs. Until you reach your 100 hours then its whomever they put with you. Pretty straight forward. Thorough but fair.

Just curious if anyone hearing anything back? I applied DEC back in May and only gotten an email saying they are working on new social distancing guidelines at the HQ...
A little about myself, I have about 2700+TT and ATP rated, with 100+actual time. Been working for a small startup 135 single pilot IFR flying in northeast for past 3 years on work visa and finally 100% cleared to work without sponsorship. My POI used to work for Planesense and highly recommended. I’m looking for something new to learn and grow and hopefully stay in northeast in the long term as there’s no room to grow at my current company and my 3 year commitment is also up this month. Anyone know what experience they are looking for? Should I reapply as FO? Appreciate in advance for any advise.

I applied in April and just got the call today ATP 2400 tt and tons of experience in the northeast. I would guess you’re on the list to be called.
