I’ve been part time at an outstation for over a year and before Covid I only had Home Standby once. Even then halfway through they changed it and had me get a Rental from my base and drive to another airport. However I did hear of an FO who had been here a year and was still had under 100 hours because they kept him mainly Home Standby at his outstation base. That’s rare but it happens.

This must be new, I was there for over 10 years and it was not uncommon for FOs to fly legs. I guess things have changed. I hear it's a different crowd there now.

Yes it was a recent change but it didn't come from management it came from the POI who used his FAA authority to make it happen

I would be fascinated to hear the reasoning from him. It would make for a compelling LOI.

His reasoning is that the annual FO checkride is not an IPC so he says that FOs aren't current to fly passengers under IFR onl VFR. Yes that is crazy reasoning and against everything that I've done previously in my aviation career but he has the power of the FAA behind hom.

The checkride is ok, it's the 6 month RFT done by an IP, and not a check airman (i.e. not a checkride) which doesn't count as an IPC per 135.297. it's the old acting vs sole manipulator PIC grey area in our operation. FOs can still fly empty legs IFR & VFR, and passenger legs VFR.

This is such a non issue here. FOs still fly as much as captains, they can upgrade quick, it's a non issue.

Is initial training still at Flight Safety? Is there an FO on every flight?

Training is in house, with some sim lessons and the checkride at flight safety. Covid might alter this from time to time. Before you ask, I don't know.

They restarted the DFW sim sessions in May. Every flight has 2 pilots. Sometimes it’s 2 Captains but mostly it will be a Captain and a FO.
