I don't know anyone on th 15/13 schedule that didn't bid for it. Nobody is forced into it. New hires will be put into the 8/6 unless they bid otherwise. 15/13 works fewer days per year, fewer crew transitions/airline flights, and more flexibility in where you can live.

Certain pilots are put on the 15/13 schedule based on where they live and airline service. Pilots can live wherever they wish as long as there is airline service. Most pilots can bid either schedule. There are a few rare exceptions to this based on the respective pilots home base such as Hawaii, Alaska, etc.
